Only when: splash risk
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 recommends protective eyewear if the material is handled such that it could be splashed into the eyes. Section 2 carries no eye-hazard GHS code (no H318/H319), so this is not a mixture-level eye hazard. Section 11 notes the product is slightly irritating to the eye. The situational tier reflects pour/drain splash risk during an oil change.

Only when: prolonged use
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 recommends chemical-resistant gloves (PVC, neoprene, or nitrile rubber) for hand contact, plus washing hands after handling and before eating or smoking; standard work clothes are otherwise called out as sufficient. No mixture-level GHS skin classification (H315/H317 absent from Section 2). Section 11 notes the product is slightly irritating to skin, and prolonged or repeated contact without proper cleaning can clog pores and cause oil acne/folliculitis, which is the basis for the situational tier.

Only when: in enclosed space · hot panels
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 states no respiratory protection is ordinarily required under normal conditions of use; it only calls for selecting respiratory protection if engineering controls fail to keep airborne concentrations adequate, and flags greater airborne-concentration risk when the material is heated, sprayed, or misted. Section 2 carries no signal word and no inhalation-hazard GHS code. Section 11 notes the product is slightly irritating to the respiratory system. The situational tier reflects mist and vapor exposure when draining hot oil in a poorly ventilated garage, not a mixture-level respiratory hazard.

No PPE specified in published sources for ventilation. Absence does not imply “not needed” — consult the full Safety Data Sheet.
PPE tiers translate the manufacturer’s SDS and U.S. regulatory standards. Not professional safety advice. How we report safety.
Scope of these PPE tiers. The tiers on this page translate the product's Safety Data Sheet where one is published, plus its ingredient chemistry, into a comparable rating. They describe a formulation, not a situation: a tier is not a safety determination for any specific user, task, quantity, or environment. The manufacturer's label and use instructions govern how the product is handled. Where the product is used at work, the employer's PPE program and hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decide what protection is selected, not this page.

TL;DR API SQ + ILSAC GF-7A certified, with GM dexos1 Gen 3 and Ford WSS-M2C970-A1 approvals covering the 2015-2020 F-150. Made from natural gas via PurePlus technology. The 15,000-mile protection guarantee applies when enrolled at pennzoil.com; community oil analysis data supports approximately 11,000 miles on typical daily-driver use. No California Prop 65 warning was found on the label, in the SDS, or on the retail listing.
Pennzoil Platinum is a Group III+/IV-equivalent full synthetic made from natural gas via the PurePlus conversion process, which produces a purer base stock with fewer impurities than crude-oil-derived base stocks. It meets the current top-tier GF-7A/API SQ specification and carries Ford WSS-M2C970-A1, which covers the 5W-20 requirement for the 2015-2020 F-150 5.0L Coyote and naturally aspirated V6 engines. The 15,000-mile protection warranty requires enrollment and proper use of an oil-life monitor; community used-oil analysis at approximately 11,000 miles shows adequate protection, placing the realistic daily-driver interval at 10,000-12,000 miles.
The SDS on file was revised in 2019, seven years ago. The current formula is certified to GF-7A/API SQ, which postdates that SDS revision. The H-code assessments here reflect the 2019 data; base chemistry appears consistent with current formulation.
Best for 2015-2020 F-150 owners running the 5.0L V8 or 3.3L/3.5L naturally aspirated V6 who want a top-tier certified 5W-20 full synthetic without a Prop 65 flag. The natural gas base stock offers a cleaner chemistry profile than conventional petroleum-based synthetics, and the GF-7A certification provides full forward compatibility with newer engine specs. Skip if you specifically require Mobil 1 EP's 20,000-mile drain claim or need a GM dexos1 oil first and foremost -- this also covers dexos1 but is primarily positioned as a Pennzoil warranty product.
The SDS classifies this product as not hazardous: no signal word, no GHS hazard codes at mixture level. H304 aspiration hazard does not apply (kinematic viscosity at 40 degrees C is 45.9 mm2/s, well above the 20.5 threshold). No California Prop 65 warning applies -- SDS Section 15 contains no Prop 65 disclosures, and Section 11 states the product is not a carcinogen. SDS Section 11 does note that continuous contact with used engine oil has caused skin cancer in animal tests, which is standard advisory language for petroleum-base lubricants; the risk context is occupational repeated exposure rather than typical oil-change contact. Used oil goes to collection, not down the drain. AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and most municipal hazardous-waste facilities accept used motor oil.
PurePlus is Pennzoil's proprietary base-oil process that converts natural gas into a full synthetic base stock. The process produces a purer base oil with fewer impurities than traditional crude-oil-derived synthetics, which Pennzoil claims results in better engine cleanliness and deposit control. The SDS classifies the base stock as a synthetic oil; independent community VOA data confirms the chemistry performs comparably to PAO-based synthetics at standard drain intervals.
Yes. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 meets Ford WSS-M2C970-A1, which is the current-generation Ford approval that supersedes WSS-M2C961-A1 (the spec listed in many 2015-2020 F-150 owner's manuals). Any oil meeting WSS-M2C970-A1 is backward-compatible with WSS-M2C961-A1 requirements. The 5.0L Coyote V8 and naturally aspirated V6 engines in the 13th-gen F-150 specify 5W-20, and this oil qualifies.
Pennzoil offers a 15,000-mile / one-year Lubrication Limited Warranty with Pennzoil Platinum. The warranty requires proper enrollment at pennzoil.com/warranty, use of an oil filter designed for longer intervals, and following the OEM vehicle oil-life monitor. The warranty covers engine damage caused by lubrication failure during the specified interval, not that the oil will perform identically in every vehicle under every condition.
GF-7A is the current top-tier ILSAC gasoline-engine oil specification, launched in March 2025. It adds improved timing-chain wear protection and fuel-economy performance over GF-6A. Engines with direct injection or turbocharging benefit most from GF-7A deposits control and oxidation resistance. GF-7A oils are backward-compatible with all previous ILSAC specifications.
No. The product listing for this product does not carry a California Prop 65 warning. The SDS (Version 1.8, 2019-04-11) contains no Prop 65 disclosures in Section 15, and SDS Section 11 explicitly states the product is not a carcinogen. Worth knowing how to read that: whether a motor oil shows a Prop 65 warning depends heavily on how the manufacturer writes and publishes its SDS, so an absent warning is not by itself proof of different chemistry.

⚠ Fits any gasoline engine that specifies a 5W-20 grade. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 carries Ford WSS-M2C970-A1 (which supersedes and is backward-compatible with WSS-M2C961-A1), FCA/Chrysler MS-6395, and GM dexos1 Gen 3 (confirmed on the back label and retailer listings 2026-06-27), covering Ford, Ram HEMI/Pentastar, and GM 5W-20 applications. The vehicles below are representative high-volume models whose own OEM data confirms a 5W-20 engine; always match the grade in your owner's manual · do not use 5W-20 in an engine that specifies 5W-30 or 0W-20.
