GHS hazard codes are quoted from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet. PPE tiers below translate those codes and the listed ingredient chemistry; they are not CarCareTruth recommendations.

Only when: splash risk
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
No H318 or H319 at mixture level. SDS §2 does not classify an eye-hazard code. Situational tier reflects the physical splash risk during the pouring and draining steps of an oil change, not a GHS eye-hazard classification.
CarCareTruth publishes the cited sources verbatim and does not advise what action a user should take. Consult the full SDS before use.
Only when: prolonged use
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
No H315 or H314 at mixture level. SDS §11b confirms skin irritation criteria are not met. SDS §8 specifies chemical protective gloves (PVC) and notes a higher-protection-class glove is recommended when prolonged or frequently repeated contact may occur, which matches a normal oil change procedure.

Only when: hot panels · in enclosed space
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 calls for local exhaust ventilation and an approved Type A-P filter respirator only if overexposure risk exists (concentration approaching or exceeding the exposure standard), and Section 2 carries H336 (narcotic/CNS effects, STOT-SE Cat 3) but not H335, H330, H331, or H334. Section 11 notes inhalation hazard increases at higher temperatures and from oil mist/aerosols. Draining warm used oil in an unventilated garage is the realistic trigger; pouring cold, non-aerosolized oil at ambient temperature (flash point 220°C) is not a mixture-level respiratory hazard.

The published Safety Data Sheet for this product does not specify ventilation protection for consumer use.
Workplace context
29 CFR 1910.134(a); 1910.1000
“the primary objective shall be to prevent atmospheric contamination [via] accepted engineering control measures (for example, enclosure or confinement of the operation, general and local ventilation…).”
Triggered by GHS H336 on the SDS.
OSHA standards apply to workplaces. Cited here as the U.S. reference threshold for the underlying hazard class.
PPE tiers translate the manufacturer’s SDS and U.S. regulatory standards. Not professional safety advice. How we report safety.
Scope of these PPE tiers. The tiers on this page translate the product's Safety Data Sheet where one is published, plus its ingredient chemistry, into a comparable rating. They describe a formulation, not a situation: a tier is not a safety determination for any specific user, task, quantity, or environment. The manufacturer's label and use instructions govern how the product is handled. Where the product is used at work, the employer's PPE program and hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decide what protection is selected, not this page.

TL;DR Certified to API SN and ACEA A3/B4, covering MB 229.5, Porsche A40, VW 502 00/505 00, and BMW Longlife-01 (pre-2018) OEM approvals, but not the API SP spec required by most 2020+ North American engines. The MFC friction modifier technology (tungsten and molybdenum) is genuinely distinctive.
Molygen New Generation 5W-40 is a fully synthetic motor oil built around MFC (Molecular Friction Control) technology: tungsten and molybdenum compounds that form a friction-reducing layer on engine surfaces and give the oil its fluorescent green color. It meets ACEA A3/B4 with MB 229.5, Porsche A40, VW 502 00/505 00, BMW Longlife-01 (pre-2018 LL-01), and Renault RN 0700/0710 approvals. API SN was superseded by API SP in 2020; the 5W-40 grade remains on SN as of 2026. Drain intervals follow OEM specification, no extended drain claim is made, and no independent community used-oil analysis data for Molygen 5W-40 was found to confirm or contradict real-world interval performance. The oil is well-reviewed by owners with broad community support in European-car communities.
Best for European vehicles including BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, VW/Audi, Renault, and Fiat where ACEA A3/B4 and specific OEM approvals matter. Skip it for any 2020+ vehicle requiring API SP, where a current-spec oil better protects modern GDI engines. Also skip it if your BMW requires LL-04, LL-14 FE+, or LL-17 FE, as this oil covers only LL-01 (up to 2018).
SDS §2 carries signal word WARNING with H336 (narcotic/CNS effects at occupational concentrations, not relevant at ambient temperature during a normal oil change) and H402 (harmful to aquatic life). The H304 aspiration hazard does not apply, since the oil's viscosity is well above the threshold for that classification. The manufacturer's product page carries a California Proposition 65 warning for a listed aromatic impurity (cancer category) found in the petroleum base stock. Gloves are a sensible precaution during prolonged or repeated contact during draining; splash protection for eyes during pouring is reasonable given the physical mechanics. Draining warm used oil in a closed garage is the realistic case for ventilation to matter (SDS §8 calls for local exhaust ventilation and a respirator only if overexposure risk exists); pouring cold oil at ambient temperature does not carry a mixture-level respiratory hazard. Used oil goes to a collection facility, not down the drain or on the ground.
Molygen 5W-40 carries MB 229.5 (older Mercedes-Benz passenger cars), BMW Longlife-01 (pre-2018 BMW models that specified LL-01, not LL-04 or LL-17 FE), Porsche A40, and VW 502 00/505 00 approvals. If your BMW was manufactured after 2018 or requires LL-04, LL-14 FE+, or LL-17 FE specification, this oil does not meet that requirement. Check your owner's manual for the exact OEM approval code required.
MFC stands for Molecular Friction Control, a proprietary Liqui Moly additive technology based on tungsten and molybdenum compounds. These molecules form a protective layer on metal surfaces to reduce friction losses. The tungstate compounds have naturally fluorescent properties when excited by UV light, which also enables UV leak detection after an oil change. The green color is the tungstate additive, not a dye.
No. Molygen 5W-40 is certified to API SN, which was superseded by API SP in 2020. API SP adds improved deposit control, oxidation stability, and chain wear protection for engines with GDI (gasoline direct injection) and turbochargers. Owners of 2020+ vehicles with API SP requirements should confirm with their dealer before using this oil. Molygen 5W-40 is best suited to vehicles that specify ACEA A3/B4 with the listed OEM approvals.
Liqui Moly's product guidance advises against mixing Molygen with additional friction-modifier additives such as Cera Tec or MoS2. The MFC additive package is already formulated into the oil, and adding external friction modifiers could affect the additive balance and potentially void performance claims.
Liqui Moly's product page carries a California Proposition 65 warning for naphthalene, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that the state of California identifies as a known carcinogen. This warning applies to the oil as sold and reflects the composition of the petroleum-base stock. The warning is relevant to routine handling during oil changes (skin contact, inhalation of vapor at elevated temperatures). Used oil also carries used-oil-specific hazards unrelated to this classification.
