Prices may varyThe manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet classifies this product with one or more GHS Category 1 health hazards — the most severe tier. The hazard statements in quotes below are the verbatim GHS language from the SDS, as required by OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. The line under each statement translates the GHS classification into plain language.
GHS Category 1 aspiration toxicity — thin, oily liquids can slip into the lungs if swallowed, causing chemical pneumonia.
GHS Category 1 carcinogenicity — classified as suspected of causing cancer with repeated or prolonged exposure.
If swallowed:
The aspiration hazard (H304) is about the liquid being swallowed and reaching the airway, not about breathing fumes during normal use.
Call Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 (US, 24/7, free) and have the product container with you. Poison Control's standing guidance is to not induce vomiting after chemical exposure; they will direct first-aid steps based on the specific product.
About this product's hazards. This product's Safety Data Sheet uses signal word DANGER.Read the manufacturer's SDS and follow all safety instructions before use. CarCareTruth ratings translate the manufacturer's safety sheet. They do not replace the SDS or substitute for a hazard assessment specific to your task.

Only when: splash risk
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 2
SDS §2.2 label elements include H320 (eye irritation Cat 2B). H320 is a real hazard code warranting situational eye protection; it is one tier milder than H319 (Cat 2A) and does not escalate to required (H318 only). Splashing during concentrate pour into a fuel tank or small-mouth fuel can is the realistic exposure trigger. DANGER is driven by H350 carcinogenicity and H304 aspiration, neither of which is an eye-injury hazard pathway.
U.S. regulatory standard
29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1)
“appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from… liquid chemicals…”
ANSI Z87.1 (incorporated via §1910.6)
OSHA standards apply to workplaces. Cited here as the U.S. reference threshold for the underlying hazard class.

Only when: prolonged use · handling concentrate
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 2
H315 (skin irritation Cat 2) in SDS §2 label elements. H315 alone does not meet the threshold for required (H314 skin corrosion only). Skin contact during the brief concentrate pour is the realistic exposure scenario; prolonged or repeated contact during extended handling warrants protection.
U.S. regulatory standard
29 CFR 1910.138(a)
“appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from… chemicals which produce an adverse effect on the skin or eyes…”
OSHA standards apply to workplaces. Cited here as the U.S. reference threshold for the underlying hazard class.

Only when: in enclosed space · prolonged use
Beyond SDS: translated from the ingredient chemistry
No H335 (respiratory irritation) at SDS §2 mixture level. However, estimated VOC ~750-800 g/L from the petroleum distillate carrier creates real inhalation exposure risk during extended pouring in an enclosed space. A high-VOC estimate without H335 still warrants situational with enclosed_space trigger. Outdoors or with adequate ventilation, vapor accumulation is negligible for the brief pour step.
U.S. regulatory standard
29 CFR 1910.1003; substance-specific 1910.1001–1910.1052

California Prop 65 warning
This product's Amazon listing carries a California Prop 65 warning. The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet (§15) does not list a Prop 65 substance for this product — we show the warning for transparency and flag the discrepancy rather than silently picking a side.
Scope of these PPE tiers. The tiers on this page translate the product's Safety Data Sheet where one is published, plus its ingredient chemistry, into a comparable rating. They describe a formulation, not a situation: a tier is not a safety determination for any specific user, task, quantity, or environment. The manufacturer's label and use instructions govern how the product is handled. Where the product is used at work, the employer's PPE program and hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decide what protection is selected, not this page.

TL;DR Community evidence from motorcycle, small-engine, and boating owners confirms reliable single-season protection (6-10 months) for E10 pump gas. The manufacturer claims 24 months; independent multi-season corroboration is mixed, so single-season use is the well-supported case. H304 aspiration hazard is present in the SDS: do not induce vomiting if ingested; seek medical attention.
STA-BIL Storage is a petroleum-based additive that prevents oxidation and gum/varnish buildup in fuel during storage. Gold Eagle claims up to 24-month protection, and the product is explicitly formulated for E10 and E15 ethanol blends. Community evidence from a very large owner base on Amazon and seasonal-storage forum threads strongly confirms single-season protection (6-10 months). Multi-year performance is occasionally reported but not consistently corroborated; most experienced seasonal-storage users retreat annually. A corrosion inhibitor active is verifiable from the SDS, and the manufacturer publishes a NACE TM 0172 corrosion-comparison chart for the formula.
Best fit for small-engine owners, motorcycle riders, and boaters storing equipment for 4-6 months at a time who want a widely available, no-fuss solution with a large community track record behind it. Skip it if you are only storing fuel for a month or less; fresh fuel in a sealed container over short durations does not need stabilization.
DANGER signal word from carcinogenicity (a petroleum-derived solvent fraction) and aspiration hazard codes in the SDS; do not induce vomiting if the concentrate is swallowed. Skin and eye irritation codes are present; nitrile gloves and eye protection are warranted for the pour step if there is any splash risk. Estimated VOC is very high from the petroleum carrier; pour outdoors or with the garage door open. SDS §15 explicitly states no California Prop 65 substances are present. H411 (chronic aquatic toxicity) is in the SDS label elements: dispose of leftover concentrate through a chemical recycling or used-fuel program, not down the drain.
Community evidence from motorcycle, small-engine, and boating forums consistently confirms reliable protection through one off-season (6-10 months). The manufacturer's 24-month claim appears on the label and product marketing, but independent multi-season corroboration is mixed; many long-term users report retreating after 12 months rather than pushing to 24. Single-season use is well-supported by the large owner base.
The label explicitly states 'Effective in all ethanol blended fuels' and community reports do not document phase separation failures in E10 pump gas. Passable for standard E10 storage up to about 6 months. The SDS does not disclose a specific ethanol stabilizer or co-solvent active, so the compatibility claim is based on label language and community evidence rather than verified ingredient chemistry.
The product is formulated for gasoline engines including small engines, carbureted equipment, fuel-injected vehicles, and marine gasoline applications. It is labeled for E10/E15 blends. Diesel compatibility is not stated on the label or in the TDS; use the diesel-specific STA-BIL formula for diesel applications.
The standard dose is 1 oz per 2.5 gallons of fuel. For a 5-gallon can, use 2 oz (approximately the 2 oz mark on the integrated measuring cup if your bottle includes one). The 16 oz bottle treats 40 gallons total.
SDS §15 explicitly states: 'This product does not contain any substances known to the state of California to cause cancer, developmental and/or reproductive harm.' The product carries a GHS carcinogenicity classification (H350) from the sweetened middle distillate fraction, but that fraction is on the GHS carcinogen list and not on the California Prop 65 list; the two lists use different evidence thresholds. Note: the product listing as of 2026-06-11 displays a Prop 65 warning; that flag is a conservative self-reported label applied by the seller and contradicts the SDS §15 explicit negative. CCT scores from the SDS.
