Solvent Naphtha (Petroleum), Light Aliphatic

  • Aliphatic solvents
  • CAS 64742-94-5
  • IUPAC: Hydrocarbons, C5-12, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, <2% aromatics

Aspiration hazard Cat 1 (H304) — may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Light aliphatic naphtha with low aromatic content; relatively low inhalation toxicity at typical ambient concentrations but vapor at high concentrations causes CNS depression and mucous membrane irritation. Flammable (H225).

Solvent naphtha (petroleum), light aliphatic (CAS 64742-94-5) is a narrow-cut, low-aromatic petroleum fraction produced by catalytic or fractional distillation. The "light" designation refers to the C5–C12 hydrocarbon range with a relatively low boiling point profile. In fuel additive products, light aliphatic naphtha serves as a low-viscosity carrier solvent that blends readily with gasoline and petroleum-based actives. The H304 aspiration hazard classification is inherent to any light, low-viscosity petroleum distillate — the primary risk is ingestion followed by pulmonary aspiration, not inhalation during normal application. The product's very low aromatics content (<2%) places it in a safer class than aromatic naphtha fractions for chronic exposure purposes.
