Prices may varyThe manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet classifies this product with one or more GHS Category 1 health hazards — the most severe tier. The hazard statements in quotes below are the verbatim GHS language from the SDS, as required by OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. The line under each statement translates the GHS classification into plain language.
GHS Category 1 aspiration toxicity — thin, oily liquids can slip into the lungs if swallowed, causing chemical pneumonia.
GHS Category 1 reproductive toxicity — classified as suspected of damaging fertility or harming an unborn child.
If swallowed, inhaled, or splashed in eyes:

TL;DR No named cetane improver, detergent active, or lubricity additive · SDS §3 is six aromatic solvents plus one proprietary ingredient (0·15%). Brand claims stabilization, cleaning, and lubrication with no identified chemistry to support them. DANGER signal word from H304 aspiration and H360 reproductive toxicity · Serious Hazard band at concentrate.
STA-BIL Diesel Formula is a petroleum-distillate-based additive for year-round diesel use. SDS §3 discloses hydrotreated naphthenic distillate (0·40%), xylene (0·25%), solvent naphtha (0·10%), naphthalene (0·5%), ethylbenzene (0·5%), trimethylbenzene (<1%), and a single proprietary component (0·15%). That proprietary ingredient is the sole candidate for any stabilizer, detergent, or lubricity function · no 2-EHN, no PEA-family detergent, no ester or amide lubricity chemistry is disclosed. The three label claims (stabilizes fuel 12 months, cleans injectors, lubricates fuel components) have no verifiable chemistry basis from the SDS. The product is highly rated by a large owner base on Amazon, though feedback is predominantly general sentiment.
Fits diesel owners wanting a recognized-brand fuel stabilizer for seasonal storage. Skip it for documented cetane improvement, injector cleaning, or lubricity protection · products disclosing named actives deliver verifiable function this formulation cannot match.
SDS §2 classifies DANGER from H304 (aspiration Cat 1) and H360 (reproductive toxicity Cat 1B, xylene-driven), plus H351 (suspected carcinogen Cat 2) and H336 (narcotic effects). Naphthalene and xylene are both Prop 65 listed. The concentrate pour at the tank fill neck is the primary exposure · full-strength aromatic vapors for 15·45 seconds. SDS §9: 100% VOC. Combustion-exhaust pathway; aromatic carriers carry ingredient-level aquatic toxicity.
The label says 'Performance Improver,' but SDS §3 does not disclose a cetane improver · no 2-EHN (2-ethylhexyl nitrate) or DTBP (di-tert-butyl peroxide) is listed. The only non-solvent ingredient is a single proprietary component at 0·15%. Without a named cetane improver, there is no independent basis to evaluate a cetane-improvement claim.
SDS §3 lists seven components · six are aromatic carrier solvents (hydrotreated naphthenic distillate, xylene, solvent naphtha, naphthalene, ethylbenzene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene). The seventh is a proprietary ingredient at 0·15% · the only candidate for any functional active such as a stabilizer, detergent, or lubricity agent.
The product listing states compatibility with all Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and biodiesel blends. No community-documented compatibility failures were found across the large owner-review base. Gold Eagle does not publish an OEM-specific compatibility list.
The product listing carries a California Proposition 65 warning. Naphthalene (CAS 91-20-3) and xylene (CAS 1330-20-7) are both named on the Prop 65 list · naphthalene as a carcinogen, xylene as a reproductive toxicant. Both are disclosed carrier solvents in SDS §3.
