A combination wrench has an open end and a box end in the same size — the open jaw lets you slip onto a fastener in tight quarters, the 12-point box end gives you the torque to crack it loose without rounding the corners. Reach for a set when you're pulling a battery terminal, swapping a serpentine belt tensioner, or working a brake caliper bolt where a socket won't fit. Get a metric set (8mm-19mm covers most modern cars) and an SAE set if you wrench on anything American or pre-2000.
