The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet classifies this product with one or more GHS Category 1 health hazards — the most severe tier. The hazard statements in quotes below are the verbatim GHS language from the SDS, as required by OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. The line under each statement translates the GHS classification into plain language.
- H314 “Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.”
GHS Category 1 skin corrosion — classified as causing irreversible skin damage on contact.
- H318 “Causes serious eye damage.”
GHS Category 1 eye damage — classified as causing irreversible eye damage on contact.

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“H318 (serious eye damage Cat 1) is the chemistry trigger. SDS §2 classifies this code under GHS05 (corrosion pictogram). Chemical splash goggles or safety glasses with side shields are required for all application steps — spray, brush agitation, and rinse. The pump spray generates overspray at wheel height; unprotected eye exposure can cause irreversible corneal damage.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“H314 (skin corrosion Cat 1) is present in SDS §2 alongside H318. Chemical-resistant gloves are required. Nitrile at adequate thickness (6+ mil) is appropriate for typical application duration; butyl rubber or neoprene is preferable for extended or repeated contact. Prolonged unprotected skin contact at pH 12 can cause chemical burns.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“No H335 (respiratory irritation) or H334 (respiratory sensitizer) in SDS §2. The 2-butoxyethanol co-solvent at 0.5–1.5% can produce mild glycol-ether odor in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces. SDS §7 advises adequate ventilation. Applying outdoors or in an open garage eliminates the concern entirely — no respiratory protection is needed in these conditions.”

CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 26, 2026
TL;DR Moderate-alkaline DANGER-class tire cleaner (pH 12, H314 skin corrosion + H318 serious eye damage) that strips heavy brown bloom and old dressing residue in a single pass — effective on severely neglected tires, but corrosive chemistry requires chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection, and monthly-or-less cadence is the safe limit.
What it is and how it performs
A strongly alkaline cleaner with real corrosive hazard codes — DANGER class, but below the extreme-caustic threshold. Spray liberally on a wet tire, dwell 30–60 seconds, agitate with a stiff brush, rinse until suds run clear. Community evidence confirms single-pass removal of heavy brown bloom and layered dressing residue — contamination repeated soap washing can't reach. The 4.6 stars across 292 reviews reflects genuine results. Note: Amazon's "pH Neutral" claim is directly contradicted by SDS §9 (pH = 12).
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Buy it for a restoration clean on tires with heavy bloom or thick accumulated dressing residue. Skip it for weekly maintenance — the alkaline chemistry is not safe for that cadence; choose a mild-alkaline formula for frequent use. Do not buy without chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection — the DANGER classification reflects real H-codes.
Safety and environmental impact
DANGER signal word driven by H314 (skin corrosion Cat 1) and H318 (serious eye damage Cat 1). H290 (corrosive to metals Cat 1): rinse bare aluminum quickly; do not allow dwell on uncoated metal. No inhalation H-codes — open-air or open-garage use satisfies SDS ventilation guidance. Water-based formula, no petroleum solvents, no aquatic-toxicity H-codes; environment 7.5 reflects a clean baseline limited by alkaline rinsate and drain-destined pathway.
Frequently asked questions
The Amazon listing says 'pH Neutral' — is that accurate?▾
No. SDS Section 9 (GM0021_CA Rev 1.0, 2024-05-02) states pH = 12. The formula contains alkaline builders including sodium hydroxide and trisodium phosphate — strongly alkaline, not neutral. This is a documented label divergence. The SDS also classifies H314 (skin corrosion Cat 1) and H318 (serious eye damage Cat 1), which are incompatible with the pH-neutral claim on the Amazon listing.
How often can I use this safely on my tires?▾
Monthly or less is the appropriate cadence for a DANGER-classified alkaline cleaner. Community reports and rubber-chemistry literature suggest that frequent alkaline cleaning can accelerate antiozonant depletion — the compounds that migrate to the tire surface to slow ozone cracking — though the mechanism at typical monthly cadence is not well-quantified. No widespread damage reports exist at monthly cadence, but weekly use raises documented concerns for long-term tire condition with this formula.
What PPE do I actually need?▾
Two items are required based on the SDS hazard codes: chemical splash eye protection (safety glasses with side shields or goggles) because H318 classifies irreversible eye damage, and chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile 6+ mil minimum) because H314 classifies skin corrosion. Respiratory protection is not warranted for outdoor or open-garage application — there are no respiratory H-codes in this formula at typical use concentrations.
Can I use this on aluminum wheels?▾
Exercise caution. H290 (corrosive to metals Cat 1) is listed in SDS §2. Strongly alkaline formulas at pH 12 can oxidize unprotected aluminum. Rinse quickly and thoroughly — do not let the formula dwell on bare aluminum or uncoated polished metal. The product is positioned for tire sidewalls, not wheel surfaces. Ceramic-coated wheels reduce but do not eliminate the risk.

Outstanding tire cleaner
A dealership recently applied tire shine to the tires on our truck and the sidewalls turned a horrible brown color a short time later. I tried scrubbing the tires with Simple Green and Bleche Wite multiple times but did not have any success removing the residue from the sidewalls. Fortunately I happened to find a detailed video on YouTube by "Out of Spec Detailing" called "Avoid this to keep your tires from turning brown". The person doing the video was using Gyeon tire cleaner for his demonstration. I went ahead and bought a bottle of Gyeon Q2M and was totally impressed with the results. It completely removed all the old tire shine residue and the tires looked brand new again. Awesome product!
