CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 29, 2026
TL;DR SO2Pure 2.0 uses a photocatalytic coating — in the presence of light, it generates reactive oxygen species that break down odor compounds rather than masking them with fragrance. The formula is marketed as odorless, pH neutral, and long-lasting (up to a year per application), but CarPro has not published a Safety Data Sheet for this product, so those claims cannot be independently verified.
What it is and how it performs
SO2Pure 2.0 is a trigger-spray treatment that forms a durable photocatalytic layer on cabin surfaces — headliner, seats, carpet, dashboard — that continuously breaks down odor compounds whenever light hits it. No fragrance is added; there is no masking mechanism. With only 21 Amazon reviews, community evidence is thin. Verified-purchase reviewers (Amazon data via Rainforest API, 2023–2025) describe lasting results on mold and pet odors. One reviewer testing it on embedded cigarette smoke (120mL, June 2025) found the effect uncertain and rated ozone and enzyme cleaners as more effective for that specific problem.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Owners dealing with mold, mildew, or pet odors — biological sources where the photocatalytic mechanism is most plausible — and who want a fragrance-free result will get the most from this product. Skip it for deeply embedded cigarette smoke in carpet padding or headliner foam; the surface-coating mechanism is better suited to surface-level odors, and an enzyme spray applied directly to the saturated material is more effective at the source. Skip it also if SDS-verified chemistry is a requirement — CarPro has not published a Safety Data Sheet for SO2Pure 2.0.
Safety and environmental impact
No Safety Data Sheet has been published for SO2Pure 2.0. The brand describes the formula as non-toxic, pH neutral, colorless, and odorless. Three other CarPro formulas — PERL, ClayLube, and CeriGlass — share the same SDS-absent pattern, consistent with formulas that may fall below GHS mandatory-classification thresholds. The 3.0 health score is the standard no-SDS penalty applied when GHS classifications cannot be independently verified — it does not reflect a known hazard. PPE tiers are precautionary defaults for the pump-spray format, not chemistry-derived verdicts. The environmental score of 7.0 reflects the base chemical pathway with no confirmed deductions or credits.
Frequently asked questions
How does SO2Pure 2.0 actually eliminate odors?▾
CarPro's feature bullets describe a photocatalytic mechanism: when the product is applied to a surface and exposed to light, reactive oxygen species form and decompose the compounds responsible for the odor. This is not fragrance masking — the product is described as colorless and odorless. The mechanism is similar to industrial air-purification technology using titanium dioxide photocatalysis. No published Safety Data Sheet is available to independently confirm the active ingredient, so the mechanism description comes from the manufacturer's Amazon listing.
Does SO2Pure 2.0 work on cigarette smoke smell?▾
Amazon verified-purchase reviews from the 120mL size give mixed feedback on embedded smoke odors. One reviewer testing it on a smoke-smell car (June 2025, 120mL, verified purchase) reported uncertainty about the effect and noted that enzyme cleaners and ozone machines had more impact on their specific situation. The photocatalytic mechanism targets odor compounds on treated surfaces — for deeply embedded smoke in carpet padding or headliner foam, a direct-application enzyme treatment to the saturated material may be more effective at the source level.
How often do I need to re-apply SO2Pure 2.0?▾
CarPro's feature bullets claim a single application provides up to one year of purification effect in the presence of light. The mechanism — a durable photocatalytic coating that continuously generates reactive oxygen species when light hits the treated surface — is consistent with long-duration effectiveness in principle. Amazon reviews are sparse (21 total across all sizes), so community-confirmed duration data is limited. One positive reviewer described lasting results on mold and pet odors.
Is SO2Pure 2.0 safe to use on all car interior surfaces?▾
CarPro's feature bullets state it can be applied to headliner, seats, ceiling, dashboard, and side panels, and that it is safe for children and pets. The formula is described as pH neutral, non-toxic, colorless, and odorless. No Safety Data Sheet is available to independently verify surface compatibility or chemical safety. The brand's track record with professional detailing products provides some credibility to the claim, but buyer-due-diligence on sensitive surfaces (perforated leather, suede alcantara) is warranted given the absence of an SDS.
Why is the health score low if the product is described as non-toxic?▾
The 3.0 health score is the standard no-SDS penalty applied whenever a product does not have a published Safety Data Sheet, regardless of how the brand describes the formula. Without an SDS, GHS classifications — signal word, hazard codes, occupational exposure limits — cannot be independently verified. CarPro may be correct that the formula is non-toxic and unclassified; three other CarPro products (PERL, ClayLube, CeriGlass) share the same pattern of formula likely falling below GHS classification thresholds. The score will be revised when an SDS is published.

- •In the presence of light, active oxygen is formed and excited on the SO2Pure 2.0 treated surfaces, which quickly destroys all micro-sized air pollutants that previously existed or land on it after application
- •The whole process of SO2Pure 2.0 photo catalytic decomposition is green in nature. Safe for Children and Pets
- •SO2Pure 2.0 is safe, non-toxic, pH neutral, colorless, and odorless, and can be applied to virtually any surface of your cars interior such as headliner, seat, ceiling, dashboard, and side panels
- •SO2Pure 2.0 durable coating requires only a single application to keep your car clean and purified. Each application produces a purification effect of up to 1 year
- •Now even more effective, lasts longer and can be applied on any interior surface of your car and even at home (kitchen, appliances, toilet) purifying the air around every time light hits them.

Works without overwhelming scent
Initially purchased as part of my never ending OCD driven quest to keep my Mercedes coupe surgically clean. This helped but to be honest it really wasn't that needed. The real and unexpected test was to treat my Jeep. After long walks with the dog in the elements, BO, and dank musky carpet, the interior was pretty funky. Tried this product and was pretty impressed. The moldy smell disappeared along with most all unpleasant odors. Odorless product. No perfumes or heavy scents that try mask the odor. Last a long time too. Carpro has an excellent line of products.
