The hazard statements in quotes below are the verbatim GHS language from the SDS, as required by OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. The line under each statement translates the GHS classification into plain language.
GHS Category 1 skin corrosion — classified as causing irreversible skin damage on contact.
GHS Category 1 eye damage — classified as causing irreversible eye damage on contact.

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2 classifies the product as Eye Dam. Cat 1 (H318 · causes serious eye damage) under the DANGER signal word; SDS §8 specifies safety glasses with side shields or goggles. The strongly alkaline pH 13 chemistry will cause serious eye damage on direct contact, so eye protection is mandatory during application and rinse.”

“SDS §2 classifies as Skin Corr. Cat 1 (H314 · causes severe skin burns); SDS §8 specifies natural rubber, nitrile rubber, Neoprene or PVC gloves. The caustic alkaline chemistry will burn skin on prolonged contact, so chemical-resistant gloves are mandatory for the brushing step.”

“No H334, H335, H330, or H331 in SDS §2. The only volatile is 2-butoxyethanol at 1·2.5% (NIOSH TWA 5 ppm); for pump-spray application outdoors no respirator is warranted. In a closed garage with mist generation the SDS §8 organic-vapor cartridge guidance becomes relevant.”

TL;DR Strongly alkaline caustic tire cleaner (pH 13, DANGER signal word, skin corrosion and serious eye damage) that strips heavy brown bloom and whitewall staining in one application · effective on severely neglected tires, but chemical-resistant gloves and goggles are required, and weekly use will dry and crack sidewalls.
Spray onto a wet tire sidewall, agitate with a stiff brush, and rinse within 30·60 seconds · the strongly alkaline formula lifts brown bloom and silicone dressing residue in a single pass. Long the go-to for whitewall and raised-white-letter restoration, with community evidence consistently backing the single-application claim on neglected tires. The dominant long-term criticism is rubber drying with frequent use; the formula is corrosive to bare aluminum, so avoid dwell time on alloy wheels.
Buy it for heavy neglected bloom or stained whitewalls at once-a-month-or-less cadence · with eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves available. Skip it if you wash weekly, have tires already showing sidewall cracking, or want a cleaner you can use without significant PPE; 303 Tire and Rubber Cleaner is the safer routine choice.
The DANGER signal word is driven by Skin Corrosion Category 1 (severe burns on skin contact) and Serious Eye Damage Category 1 (serious damage on contact) · the strongly alkaline pH 13 chemistry makes these real hazards, not boilerplate. Eye protection during application and rinse is mandatory; chemical-resistant gloves are required for the brush step. The formula is water-based, carries a Prop 65 warning on the product listing, and its strongly alkaline rinsate temporarily raises pH at the storm drain. Incompatible with bare aluminum per the SDS.
Not in the current formulation. The 2024-06-28 SDS classifies the product as water-miscible at any proportion with a pH of 12.5·13.5 · this is a strongly alkaline caustic cleaner, not a petroleum-solvent formula. The only volatile organic disclosed is 2-butoxyethanol at 1·2.5%. Older community lore around mineral spirits chemistry no longer matches the product on the shelf today.
The SDS classifies the product as Skin Corrosion Category 1 (H314 · causes severe skin burns and eye damage) and Serious Eye Damage Category 1 (H318). The pH of 12.5·13.5 is strongly alkaline; on contact with skin or eyes the formula will cause serious chemical burns. Eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves are required during application and rinse · this is a real chemistry hazard, not boilerplate.
Yes · historically that's been Bleche-Wite's core market. The alkaline formula lifts brown bloom and dingy films from white surfaces effectively in one application. Apply sparingly with a stiff brush, agitate, and rinse promptly to avoid drying-streaks. Avoid contact with painted body panels and aluminum wheels · the caustic formula is corrosive to bare aluminum (SDS §10).
Community long-term reports consistently warn against weekly use. The strong alkaline chemistry strips antiozonant migration efficiently, but repeated application accelerates rubber drying and sidewall cracking on older tires. Save it for the once-a-month deep clean or a one-time rescue on a heavily neglected set of tires; use a milder foaming wheel-and-tire cleaner for routine washes.
The SDS lists aluminum as an incompatible material · the caustic formula will etch bare aluminum on extended contact. For clear-coated aluminum wheels normal application and prompt rinse is generally safe, but for polished aluminum or chrome wheels use a wheel-specific cleaner instead. Don't allow Bleche-Wite to dwell on any aluminum surface.
