Don't trust the gauge blindly though — most consumer inflators read 1-3 psi off, so verify with a separate stick gauge if the tire is anywhere near max sidewall pressure.

The best portable tire inflator for most drivers is a cordless or 12V unit small enough to live in a glovebox or door pocket, because the whole point of portable is that it's actually with you when a tire goes soft in a parking lot.
