A mechanic stool is the difference between an afternoon of brake work and an afternoon of brake work plus a sore back the next day. The roller seat keeps you at wheel-well or bumper height for jobs that are too low to stand for and too high to lay under — installing calipers, packing wheel bearings, masking for paint, wiping down lower rocker panels. Pneumatic height adjustment matters more than the price tag; if you can't change height without standing up, you'll just stand instead. Get one with a tool tray underneath and decent casters — the cheap plastic wheels lock up the first time they roll over a stray bolt, and you'll fight the stool every time you push off.
