TL;DR Vehicle-specific laser-measured TPE FloorLiner for the 2001–2004 Toyota Tacoma (Regular Cab and Xtracab only), with deep-channel containment and an OEM driver-side retention hook. Community confirms full floor-well coverage with no pedal-area gap across multiple independent reviews. The category benchmark for fitment accuracy and all-weather containment.
What it is and how it performs
The WeatherTech Custom Fit FloorLiner is a vehicle-specific all-weather floor liner molded to OEM Toyota Tacoma floor well dimensions via laser measurement. The HDTE (High-Density Tri-Extruded) TPE compound provides a rigid core for shape retention with a surface-friction backing that grips factory carpet. Advanced channel geometry carries liquid and debris to a lower reservoir, containing wet-boot and rain loads without overflow to the factory carpet. The driver-side liner includes an OEM-compatible retention hook that physically locks to the Tacoma's factory hold-down post; the passenger side relies on backing friction (one long-term reviewer noted shift on the passenger side and added Velcro as a workaround). Community evidence across multiple Tacoma-specific owner reviews confirms the liner seats flush against the door sills with no exposed factory carpet. Durability is community-confirmed at 5+ years across vehicle owners in multiple climate zones; the lifetime limited warranty corroborates the construction quality. The B000KL3C5E ASIN is fitment-specific to 2001–2004 Tacoma Regular Cab and Xtracab — manufacturer lists automatic transmission only, and community evidence confirms fitment for manual transmission Xtracab configurations is also possible with no clutch interference.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
The right pick for 2001–2004 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab or Xtracab owners who need community-confirmed all-weather floor protection with laser-measured fit. The deep-channel design handles wet-climate daily driving, muddy off-road use, and snow-melt containment better than standard raised-lip competitors. Skip this if your vehicle is a 2001–2004 Tacoma Double Cab — the compatibility chart explicitly excludes it and fit complaints in that configuration are consistent. Skip also if you need rear-seat or cargo protection — this set covers the 1st row (front driver and passenger) only; WeatherTech lists separate rear-seat and cargo liner SKUs for the Tacoma. Buyers on a tighter budget who accept a lower-profile containment lip should compare the Husky Liners WeatherBeater, which scores well on fitment at a lower price point.
Safety and environmental impact
No chemical exposure pathway — HDTE TPE is a passive synthetic polymer accessory with no volatile compound emission in normal vehicle use. TPE microplastic particles shed through surface abrasion over the mat's lifespan; the community-confirmed 5+ year lifespan and lifetime warranty reduce total replacement volume versus thin commodity rubber alternatives, lowering total material waste over the vehicle's life. No WeatherTech take-back or recycling program exists for end-of-life liners. The product carries a California Proposition 65 warning — standard for molded TPE and rubber products containing trace carbon black, not indicative of meaningful exposure during vehicle use.
Frequently asked questions
Does the WeatherTech FloorLiner fit my specific vehicle?▾
The FloorLiner is vehicle-specific — each model number fits a defined set of make, model, year, and cab configurations. For the B000KL3C5E ASIN, this covers 2001–2004 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab and Xtracab only. WeatherTech's website has a fitment tool where you enter your year, make, and model to get the correct part number. Always confirm fitment before purchasing — wrong cab type is the primary cause of negative fit reviews.
What material is the WeatherTech Custom Fit FloorLiner made from?▾
The Custom Fit FloorLiner is made from High-Density Tri-Extruded (HDTE) Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) — a synthetic rubber compound that resists cracking, warping, and surface wear. TPE remains pliable in cold weather and does not contain natural rubber (latex), so there is no latex allergen concern.
How do you clean WeatherTech FloorLiners?▾
WeatherTech FloorLiners are hoseable — remove the mat, shake out loose debris, then rinse with a standard garden hose. The deep channel geometry directs debris and water to a lower reservoir, which can be rinsed clean. For heavy grime, a soft brush with mild soap and water is sufficient. WeatherTech sells a TechCare FloorLiner and Carpet Cleaner product specifically for its liners, though plain water is effective for most cleaning.
Does the passenger-side WeatherTech FloorLiner have an anchor post?▾
For the 2001–2004 Toyota Tacoma fitment, the driver-side liner has an OEM-compatible retention hook that locks to the factory hold-down post, while the passenger-side liner uses the HDTE surface friction backing only — no dedicated anchor post. One long-term reviewer noted the passenger-side liner shifts with occupant foot movement and added Velcro strips as a workaround. The driver-side retention is solid; the passenger side relies on backing friction.
Is the WeatherTech FloorLiner worth the premium over cheaper alternatives?▾
The laser-measured fit and HDTE TPE compound separate WeatherTech from commodity rubber mats. The primary evidence is the fitment accuracy — community confirms full floor-well coverage with no exposed factory carpet on the intended Tacoma configurations, which generic mats cannot reliably deliver for vehicle-specific floor wells. The lifetime limited warranty adds durable long-term value. The premium is justified for buyers who prioritize confirmed fitment and want a mat that lasts the life of the vehicle.

"Will work with a manual transmission tacoma!"- Sum Yung Guy
I did a little researching and calling before I bought this for '04 Tacoma regular cab with a manual transmission. On the Weathertech website, you will see that its only available for an automatic transmission. When I called customer service, they said it wouldn't work on my vehicle and they wouldn't elaborate as to why it wouldn't. From reading on some Tacoma forums, people had to cut some of the section that covers the carpet behind the clutch pedal. I don't know whether these were different in the past but it did appear as though in a photo back then that section went a few inches higher where it possibly can cause issues with engaging the clutch. I guess, along with others in the Tacoma forum, believe it's a potential liability issue, which makes sense. But with the pair I received it only covers about the same height of the other sides of the liner. I think it will work fine to catch maybe your heel as you use any of the pedals. They fit great! I don't have issues with it sliding however I can't really vouch for the passenger side as I don't ever really side there while riding in the vehicle. It seems to stay put as I sometimes hop into the passenger side to grab things and work on my truck. I'm glad they had grey as it goes along with the various shades of grey trim. The grey color is sort of a middle grey and any other gray trim is a few shades lighter. It's a great product! I definitely recommend it, saved my carpets more times than not. However I'm not liable for how the liner may fit in your Tacoma. While I was PARKED, I've CHECKED and TESTED my liner and pedals to see if there were any interference with how MY Tacoma operated. I saw no harm and felt safe using it. Here I am, still alive to tell the tale. You should do what's in your best interest in being safe and ensure the liner serves it function. If it fits with no issues great. If it doesn't return it!
