TL;DR Independent long-term reports put this at 5 to 6 months of beading on a daily driver, not the 12 months on the tin, which is roughly double what a normal paste wax manages and the honest reason people keep asking for it. Buff-off is the trade-off, because the dark-paint tin punishes a thick coat. Check the listing before you buy: this is the Japanese-market article and a differently formulated European one is sold separately. Health score reflects a DANGER signal word, a skin-irritation classification and a California Proposition 65 disclosure from the solvent carrier.
This is not a carnauba wax pretending to be modern. The film-former is a fluoropolymer resin, which is why the finish reads as clear, hard and slick rather than warm, and why the protection outlasts the category. Scoop it from the tin with the included sponge, spread a film that should be close to invisible on the panel, wait 5 to 20 minutes for it to haze, then buff off with a dry microfiber. The tin goes a long way. The catch is that this dark-paint version is the fussier of the two colors to remove, and any coat thicker than a whisper is what produces the high spots and greasy shadowing that dominate the complaints; thin layers, one or two panels at a time, and a shorter haze are the fix owners converge on. It can also stain adjacent plastic and rubber trim. What you get back is the beading, praised in every independent source, and a protection window of 5 to 6 months on a daily driver, stretching toward 7 from two coats on freshly polished paint.
Buy it if you have dark paint, you prep properly, and you want the longest interval a hand-applied wax realistically gives you. Skip it if this is your first paste wax and you want something forgiving, because the buff-off has a real learning curve; Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax is the friendlier first tin even though it needs reapplying more often. If protection time is all you care about, Collinite 476S is the other long-interval option in this category and it scores considerably better on both health and environment, though it is no easier to buff. And if what you actually want is carnauba warmth on black rather than fluoropolymer clarity, a pure carnauba like P21S is the different thing you are looking for. If your car is white, silver or a light metallic, buy the Light tin instead, since Soft99 sells the two as color-matched formulas rather than packaging.
The DANGER signal word comes from the flammable-solid classification, a fire hazard rather than a biological one. What bears on health sits under it: the safety data sheet classifies the mixture as causing skin irritation and as possibly causing drowsiness or dizziness, both traceable to an aromatic hydrocarbon carrier at 50 to 60 percent of the formula, and its Section 8 specifies product-resistant gloves, glasses where splashing is a risk, and adequate ventilation, while stating respiratory protection is not required where ventilation is sufficient. A California Proposition 65 warning applies: ethylbenzene and cumene are both disclosed below 1 percent, both are listed carcinogens, and SOFT99's own United States store names those two chemicals in its warning even though the Amazon listing does not show one. The wax cures on the paint rather than rinsing to a drain, but the estimated solvent load is high at roughly 512 grams per litre and the mixture is classified as toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
They are different formulations, and Soft99 publishes a separate Safety Data Sheet for each. This listing is the Japanese article, number 00300, whose sheet discloses an aromatic-containing hydrocarbon carrier at 50 to 60 percent along with kerosine, nonane and small amounts of xylene, ethylbenzene, cumene and trimethylbenzene. The European article, number 10332, discloses a de-aromatized isoalkane carrier at 55 to 65 percent with under 2 percent aromatics, and none of those aromatic constituents appear in its composition table at all. Soft99's own store describes the European version as developed with raw materials that meet the environmental standards in Europe. The two sheets also classify differently: the Japanese article carries skin-irritation and drowsiness hazard statements that the European one does not. Soft99 does not publish a durability comparison between them, so treat any claim that one lasts longer than the other as an enthusiast opinion rather than a manufacturer statement.

Dark is intended for black, dark grey, red, blue and green paint; Light is for white, silver and pale metallics. Buy the one that matches your paint. Worth knowing before you choose: the Dark tin is the one owners more often describe as fussy to buff, so if your car is black you should plan on thinner coats than you think you need.

The film needs to be close to invisible on the panel; a visible layer of paste is already too thick, and the excess is what shows up as greasy shadowing once it hazes. Working one or two panels at a time and shortening the haze time before buffing is the fix owners converge on. Some also report the shadowing fading on its own after a few days of sun. A separate thing to watch is the wax staining adjacent plastic and rubber trim, which is easier to avoid than to remove.
Neither label fits cleanly. It is sold and applied as a paste wax, scooped from a tin with a sponge and buffed off, but the film-former is a fluoropolymer resin rather than carnauba, which is where the durability comes from and why the finish reads as clear and hard rather than warm. It is not a ceramic coating: there is no silica chemistry and no curing step, and you can remove it with a normal decontamination wash.
