CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 15, 2026
TL;DR Diluted 1:1 with water it is one of the longest-running clay lubricants in the pro-shop playbook — enough glide for a clay bar to track across a contaminated panel without grabbing, and the panel wipes bone-dry with one microfiber pass.
What it is and how it performs
Meguiar's D155 Detailer-line product, sold as a 1-gallon concentrate (D15501) and a 32-ounce ready-to-use trigger (DRTU15532). Dual-role: neat it works as a quick detailer; diluted 1:1 with water it works as a clay lubricant. This listing is scored against the clay-lubricant role. At the 1:1 dilution the water-dominated polymer formula provides ample glide for mild and aggressive clay grades while keeping the clay grabby enough to lift contamination rather than hydroplaning over it. The panel wipes clean with one microfiber pass.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
The right pick for an owner who clays once or twice a year and wants strong per-session economy — the gallon yields roughly two gallons of working solution, enough for many full-vehicle sessions. The 32-ounce DRTU is the ready-to-use option. Skip it if a rinseless wash concentrate is already on hand — diluted appropriately, that delivers comparable glide at lower cost.
Safety and environmental impact
The REACH/CLP safety data sheet (rev. 2023-05-10) classifies the mixture as not hazardous — no signal word, no pictograms, no product-level H-codes. The preservative sits below the product-level sensitizer threshold (EUH208 supplemental only). The alcohol fraction is under 2 percent; its ingredient-level flammability code does not classify the diluted mixture as flammable and does not feed the health score. The Amazon listing for B0006SH4NC carries a California Proposition 65 warning, reflected in the health score per the rubric. SDS §12.6 confirms surfactant biodegradability per EU 648/2004 — the basis for the environment credit. VOC at the working dilution sits well under 50 g/L.
Frequently asked questions
Is Last Touch a dedicated clay lubricant or a quick detailer?▾
Meguiar's markets the D155 family as both. Sprayed neat onto a panel it works as a quick detailer for removing dust and fingerprints; diluted 1:1 with water in a spray bottle it works as a clay lubricant for use with a clay bar or mitt. The 1-gallon D15501 is the professional refill format and the 1:1 clay-use dilution is the brand's stated recommendation. The 32-ounce DRTU15532 sibling ships ready-to-use in a trigger bottle. CarCareTruth scores this listing against the clay-lubricant rubric because that is the clay-use case under review.
Why is there a California Proposition 65 warning if the safety data sheet says the product is not classified as hazardous?▾
California's Proposition 65 is a labeling regulation that operates independently of the OSHA / CLP hazard classification system. A product can be classified as not hazardous under the safety data sheet rules and still require a California label if any ingredient is on the state's list at any detectable level. The REACH/CLP SDS reviewed here is the UK/EU document; it does not address the California regulation. The Amazon listing carries the warning, which is reflected in the health score.
What dilution does Meguiar's recommend for clay-bar use?▾
Meguiar's recommends diluting the D155 concentrate 1:1 with water for clay-bar use, as stated in the product listing and brand documentation. The dilution preserves clay grab on contamination while providing enough glide for the bar to move across the paint safely. Used neat as a clay lube, the product is over-lubricated and can hydroplane the clay over heavier contamination.
Is it safe for ceramic coatings or paint protection film?▾
Meguiar's markets the product as universally surface-safe. No named third-party paint protection film, vinyl wrap, or ceramic coating manufacturer endorsement has been located in public sources. The mild chemistry — water-dominated, IPA at <2%, no aggressive solvents — is consistent with safe use on coated and wrapped vehicles based on the ingredient profile, but the surface-safety claim is a brand statement rather than a third-party-validated specification. Test on an inconspicuous edge first if the vehicle is wrapped or freshly coated.
Does this work as a clay lubricant for clay bars other than Meguiar's brand?▾
Yes. The water-based formula provides lubricity that is brand-neutral with respect to the clay product — community reports support its use with Mothers, Adam's, Griot's, and aftermarket consumer clay bars at the 1:1 dilution. Meguiar's bundles the C2000 Mild and C2100 Aggressive professional clays in their own kits, but the lubricant chemistry is not coupled to those clay grades.

A Reliable, High-Gloss Detailer That Delivers Professional Results Every Time
Meguiar’s Last Touch Spray Detailer has become one of the most dependable products in my detailing setup. After using it extensively on multiple vehicles, I can confidently say this detailer offers excellent performance, strong versatility, and outstanding value for anyone who details regularly or professionally. The gloss and finish it provides are consistently impressive. It gives the paint a clean, slick, high-gloss look without feeling oily or artificial. On darker colors—where streaks are usually a challenge—Last Touch wipes off cleanly and evenly. The finish looks polished and refined, making it ideal for final wipe-downs before delivery or photography. One of its biggest advantages is versatility. It works extremely well as a quick detailer for removing light dust, fingerprints, and water spots, but it also functions as an excellent clay bar lubricant. When diluted 1:1 (for the concentrated version), it provides smooth glide and reduces the risk of marring. When used at full strength, it delivers maximum shine with minimal effort. The ability to use one product for multiple steps adds a lot of convenience to any detailer’s workflow. It has a mild, pleasant scent and buffs out effortlessly without smearing on glass or trim. It’s also very effective as a drying aid after a wash, helping prevent water spots while adding noticeable gloss. The gallon size is a major value point and lasts a long time, especially for professionals or frequent users. However, it is important to double-check the product description before purchasing, as there is potential for confusion between the concentrated version and the ready-to-use version. When I purchased mine, the photo on Amazon showed the concentrated gallon, which can be diluted, but what I received was the ready-to-use version, which cannot be diluted the same way. The seller never responded to my messages, but Amazon eventually issued me a refund. This does not reflect on the quality of the Meguiar’s product itself, but customers should be attentive to the listing details to ensure they receive the version they expect.Overall, Meguiar’s D15501 Last Touch Spray Detailer is a high-performing, professional-grade product that consistently delivers excellent results. Whether used as a quick detailer, a clay lubricant, or a finishing spray to enhance gloss, it excels in every application. Highly recommended for both weekend enthusiasts and professional detailers—just be sure to verify which version of the product you are purchasing.
