“The REACH/CLP safety data sheet classifies the mixture as not hazardous with no eye-hazard H-codes; pump-spray application creates a plausible mist-contact scenario from spray mechanics rather than chemistry.”

“SDS §2 has no inhalation H-codes. IPA at <2% is mildly volatile; the enclosed-space trigger is precautionary for anyone using this in a closed garage rather than outdoors.”

This product ranks #2 of 6 in Clay Lubricant.
Last reviewed July 5, 2026
TL;DR Diluted 1:1 with water it is one of the longest-running clay lubricants in the pro-shop playbook: enough glide for a clay bar to track across a contaminated panel without grabbing, and the panel wipes bone-dry with one microfiber pass.
Meguiar's D155 Detailer-line product, sold as a 1-gallon concentrate (D15501) and a 32-ounce ready-to-use trigger (DRTU15532). Dual-role: applied neat it works as a quick detailer; diluted 1:1 with water it works as a clay lubricant. This listing is scored against the clay-lubricant role. At the 1:1 dilution the water-dominated polymer formula provides ample glide for mild and aggressive clay grades while keeping the clay grabby enough to lift contamination rather than hydroplaning over it. The panel wipes clean with one microfiber pass.
The right pick for an owner who clays once or twice a year and wants strong per-session economy: the gallon yields roughly two gallons of working solution, enough for many full-vehicle sessions. The 32-ounce DRTU is the ready-to-use option. Skip it if a rinseless wash concentrate is already on hand; diluted appropriately, that delivers comparable glide at lower cost.
The REACH/CLP safety data sheet (rev. 2023-05-10) classifies the mixture as not hazardous: no signal word, no pictograms, no product-level H-codes. The preservative sits below the product-level sensitizer threshold. The alcohol fraction is under 2 percent; its ingredient-level flammability code does not classify the diluted mixture as flammable and does not feed the health score. The product listing carries a California Proposition 65 warning, reflected in the health score. SDS §12.6 confirms surfactant biodegradability per EU 648/2004. VOC at the working dilution sits well under 50 g/L.
Meguiar's markets the D155 family as both. Applied neat it works as a quick detailer for removing dust and fingerprints; diluted 1:1 with water in a spray bottle it works as a clay lubricant for use with a clay bar or mitt. The 1-gallon D15501 is the professional refill format and the 1:1 clay-use dilution is the brand's stated recommendation. The 32-ounce DRTU15532 sibling ships ready-to-use in a trigger bottle. CarCareTruth scores this listing against the clay-lubricant rubric because that is the clay-use case under review.
California's Proposition 65 is a labeling regulation that operates independently of the OSHA/CLP hazard classification system. A product can be classified as not hazardous under the safety data sheet rules and still require a California label if any ingredient is on the state's list at any detectable level. The REACH/CLP SDS reviewed here is the UK/EU document and does not address the California regulation. The product listing carries the warning, which is reflected in the health score.
Meguiar's recommends diluting the D155 concentrate 1:1 with water for clay-bar use, as stated in the product listing and brand documentation. The dilution preserves clay grab on bonded contamination while providing enough glide for the bar to move safely across the paint. Used neat as a clay lube, the product can over-lubricate and cause the clay to hydroplane over heavier contamination rather than picking it up.
Meguiar's markets the product as universally surface-safe. No named third-party paint protection film, vinyl wrap, or ceramic coating manufacturer endorsement has been located in public sources. The mild chemistry (water-dominated, IPA at <2%, no aggressive solvents) is consistent with safe use on coated and wrapped vehicles based on the ingredient profile, but the surface-safety claim is a brand statement rather than a third-party-validated specification. Test on an inconspicuous edge first if the vehicle is wrapped or freshly coated.
Yes. The water-based formula provides lubricity that is brand-neutral with respect to the clay product. Community reports support its use with a range of consumer and professional clay bars at the 1:1 dilution. Meguiar's bundles their C2000 Mild and C2100 Aggressive professional clays in their own kits, but the lubricant chemistry is not coupled to those clay grades and works with other brands.
