Rust-Oleum is one of the oldest coatings brands in the US, founded in 1921 by a Scottish sea captain who noticed fish oil stopped rust on iron ship decks. Now a subsidiary of RPM International, the company is best known for its consumer aerosol line — Stops Rust is the category anchor that most home mechanics reach for when dealing with surface corrosion on vehicles, tools, and outdoor metal. Their rust converter and primer products are widely stocked at hardware and home improvement chains, making them the de-facto default for DIY rust treatment.
