Decent, but it's tough on the environment.

Only when: splash risk · handling concentrate
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 states eye protection is not required under normal conditions of use but calls for splash-proof safety goggles if the material could be misted or splashed into eyes. Section 2 carries no eye-hazard GHS code (no H318/H319/H320), and Section 11 reports the product unlikely to cause eye irritation or injury, so this is a pour/splash precaution during concentrate handling, not a mixture-level eye hazard.

Only when: handling concentrate · splash risk
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 calls for resistant gloves and impervious clothing when handling the concentrate. Section 2 carries no skin-irritation code (no H315), and Section 11 confirms no skin irritation for the product, but H302 (harmful if swallowed) applies to the same ethylene glycol chemistry that contacts skin during a drain or pour. Situational tier for concentrate handling and pour/drain work.
U.S. regulatory standard

“The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment.”
OSHA standards apply to workplaces. Cited here as the U.S. reference threshold for the underlying hazard class.

Only when: in enclosed space
Translated from the ingredient chemistry
No inhalation H-codes in SDS Section 2 (no H330, H331, H332), and this SDS does not carry a respiratory-protection subsection in Section 8 at all. Section 9 vapor pressure is 2 hPa at 20°C, negligible at ambient temperature. Situational risk is limited to draining hot coolant or working in enclosed engine compartments where steam is present.

PPE tiers translate the manufacturer’s SDS and U.S. regulatory standards. Not professional safety advice. How we report safety.
Scope of these PPE tiers. The tiers on this page translate the product's Safety Data Sheet where one is published, plus its ingredient chemistry, into a comparable rating. They describe a formulation, not a situation: a tier is not a safety determination for any specific user, task, quantity, or environment. The manufacturer's label and use instructions govern how the product is handled. Where the product is used at work, the employer's PPE program and hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decide what protection is selected, not this page.

TL;DR Valvoline's own technical bulletin lists this Si-OAT concentrate as "Porsche Approved," alongside Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and VW TL 774-G (G12++), and it meets ASTM D3306/D4985/D6210. It's an aftermarket Zerex product, not genuine Porsche-branded fluid. Ethylene glycol base with a WARNING label; households with pets or kids face a real ingestion risk if it spills.
This is Zerex's Si-OAT (silicate organic-acid) concentrate, the same BASF Glysantin G40 chemistry family Porsche brands as its own G40 91 EF fluid, and Valvoline's bulletin names Porsche directly alongside Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and VW. The label claims 5 years and 150,000 miles, and it ships full-strength: mix 50/50 with distilled water for standard protection, richer for extreme cold. Ethylene glycol base, standard for automotive cooling; the ingestion hazard is covered below.
Best for owners of water-cooled Porsches (924 through the current 911) and Audi, Mercedes-Benz, or VW models that call for TL 774-G (G12++) Si-OAT fluid. Skip it if your car specifically calls for the newer G13 (TL 774-J) generation or a different-color inhibitor system; mixing families can cause corrosion.
WARNING signal word, driven by H302 (harmful if swallowed) and an organ-damage classification for the kidneys and liver from prolonged exposure. Manufacturer material carries a Prop 65 warning for ethylene glycol. SDS Section 8 calls for gloves and splash-proof goggles during concentrate handling; no respirator is indicated. A bittering agent deters pets and children. Collect spent coolant for recycling; never drain it to the ground or a storm sewer.
No. This is Valvoline's Zerex G-40, an aftermarket coolant in Zerex's own packaging and part-numbering (861526). Valvoline's own technical bulletin states it is approved for Porsche and meets the VW TL 774-G (G12++) specification, the same BASF Glysantin G40 chemistry family Porsche sells under its own part numbers (00004330149, 00004330105) as G40 91 EF. Buyers who specifically want Porsche-branded fluid can order it through a Porsche parts source; this product is the aftermarket alternative built to the same spec.
Every water-cooled Porsche, from the 924, 928, 944, and 968 through the Boxster, Cayman, 911 (996 onward), Cayenne, Panamera, Macan, and the all-electric Taycan, specifies Porsche's G40 (pink) coolant once the older part numbers were superseded. The Taycan has no engine, but its high-voltage battery, drive electronics, and cabin heater share one glycol coolant circuit (separate from its AC refrigerant loop), and the Taycan's own owner's manual names Glysantin G40 (G12++ / VW TL 774-G) as the fluid to use, the same spec family this product meets. Always confirm the exact spec against the owner's manual or the coolant reservoir cap before a flush, since early water-cooled models and non-U.S. builds can differ.
Concentrate. This 1-gallon jug must be mixed with distilled water before use, most commonly 50/50 for standard protection. Valvoline also sells a separate 50/50 ready-to-use version of G-40 under a different part number; this listing is the concentrate only. Using it undiluted, or diluting an already ready-to-use bottle further, both push the freeze and boil protection outside the intended range.
Si-OAT (silicate organic acid technology) pairs a small amount of silicate with organic-acid corrosion inhibitors for fast initial aluminum protection plus long-term service life. G-40 meets VW TL 774-G, the G12++ generation of this chemistry; G13 (VW TL 774-J) is a newer, lower-glycol generation with its own approval list. The two are related but not interchangeable without checking a specific vehicle's current spec.
The SDS classifies it H302 (harmful if swallowed) with a California Prop 65 warning for ethylene glycol, and the formula includes a bittering agent specifically to discourage accidental tasting. Ethylene glycol's sweet taste is the documented attractant for pets and small children around unsecured coolant.
