CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed June 4, 2026
TL;DR Grand-touring all-season with UTQG Traction A and Treadwear 740, built around a low-rolling-resistance TriBLEND compound. Mid-pack wet braking for its class; no 3PMSF severe-snow certification.
What it is and how it performs
The Avid Ascend GT targets fuel efficiency via a low-rolling-resistance three-polymer compound and asymmetric tread with triple 3D sipes. Sold in H- and V-speed-rated sizes spanning 15- to 20-inch wheels for sedans, minivans, and crossovers. UTQG grades: Treadwear 740 / Traction A / Temperature A. Published reviews consistently place wet braking mid-pack for the grand-touring all-season class; the Traction A grade is the federal wet-grip ceiling.
Who should buy this, and who should skip it
Right pick for a sedan or crossover owner who wants year-round capability in mild climates and a high Treadwear grade. Skip if genuine winter driving is expected: no 3PMSF certification means a 3PMSF-rated all-weather tire is the correct class for snow and ice.
Safety and environmental impact
Cured-rubber-and-steel construction; no chemical-exposure pathway from the tire in normal mounting and use. No Prop 65 warning. Tires as a class shed tire-wear particles and 6PPD-quinone in road runoff and are mostly burned or downcycled at end-of-life.
