TL;DR Caustic alkaline tire and wheel cleaner (pH 13.5, DANGER signal word, H314 skin corrosion) that strips heavy brake dust and brown bloom in one application · effective on severely neglected tires, but wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles, and limit use to monthly or less to avoid drying and cracking sidewalls.
Strongly alkaline caustic formula designed to dissolve brake dust, oxidation, and old dressing buildup. Spray onto pre-rinsed tires and wheels, dwell 30·60 seconds while the formula browns as it lifts contamination, agitate with a stiff brush, and rinse. Owners confirm single-application removal of heavy brake-dust buildup including on tires neglected for years; old dressing residue may need a second pass. Economy is modest at 4·5 full-vehicle sessions per 23 oz bottle. The SDS notes aluminum incompatibility · avoid dwell on polished or uncoated alloy wheels.
Right fit for owners with severely neglected tires or heavy brake-dust accumulation who will use this monthly or less. Skip it for weekly maintenance · repeated caustic application accelerates sidewall drying and cracking. For routine washes, a mild alkaline cleaner like 303 Tire and Rubber Cleaner handles bloom removal without the chemistry burden.
The DANGER signal word reflects H314 skin corrosion Cat 1B at pH 13.5 · contact causes chemical burns; wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles. A skin sensitizer code (H317) is also present. The product carries a Prop 65 warning; the trigger substance is not named on the label or in the available SDS. The formula is water-based but carries an aquatic toxicity code (H412), and the biodegradability claim on the label is not supported by any cited standard in the SDS.
The Safety Data Sheet for Turtle Wax T-18 All Wheel and Tire Cleaner carries a DANGER signal word, with classified hazards including H290 (may be corrosive to metals); H314 (causes severe skin burns and eye damage); H317 (may cause an allergic skin reaction). The Amazon listing also carries a California Prop 65 warning. See the PPE breakdown above for use-case-specific guidance translated from the SDS hazard codes.
CarCareTruth scores Turtle Wax T-18 All Wheel and Tire Cleaner at 5.3 out of 10 on the composite CCT score, with a health sub-score of 2.0/10. The CCT score blends real-world effectiveness, ingredient health impact pulled from the manufacturer's safety sheet, and environmental footprint against a published category rubric. See the methodology link on this page for the full scoring breakdown.
