TL;DR Industry-standard heavy-cut professional compound — community evidence consistently confirms 1200-grit sanding mark removal in 1–2 DA passes on hard clearcoats. Pair with M205 for hologram-free finishing on dark paint. SDS not on file, so the health score is unrated.
What it is and how it performs
A small bead on a foam or microfiber cutting pad, work the panel at moderate-to-high DA speed, then wipe off — a single panel finishes in 4–7 minutes depending on defect severity. M105 is Meguiar's professional heavy-cut compound: documented in their TDS to level 1200-grit sanding marks and confirmed in community paint correction tests on hard German and Asian clears. The super micro-abrasive technology behaves as a diminishing abrasive, so it finishes cleaner than traditional rubbing compounds. Most pros pair it with M205 (Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish) for two-step correction on dark paint; on softer clears it can be one-step capable with a finishing pad.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Buy it if you're correcting hard clearcoats with deep defects (1500-grit or coarser sanding marks, deep swirls, severe oxidation) or running a two-step pro correction workflow. The cut level genuinely lives up to the "heavy-cut" positioning — it does work that medium-cut hybrids cannot. Skip it if you only need light to moderate correction — Meguiar's Ultimate Compound or 3D ONE handles softer clears with less effort — or if formula transparency matters to you, since the SDS was not located at time of review.
Safety and environmental impact
The 2019 EU REACH SDS classifies M105 as WARNING with H317 (Skin Sensitization Cat 1A) — driven by a trace CMIT/MIT preservative (5-Chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one + 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one reaction mass, CAS 55965-84-9). This is a known potent skin sensitizer at trace levels; nitrile or chemical-resistant gloves are warranted during application and pad cleanup. No DANGER classification, no eye irritation H-codes, no respiratory hazard codes. Eye protection is recommended for mechanical splatter during DA polishing. The water-based carrier and absence of petroleum distillate keep VOC effectively below the deduction threshold; combined with CARB compliance, the environment score lands at 8.
Frequently asked questions
How aggressive is M105?▾
M105 is a professional heavy-cut compound — community evidence and Meguiar's TDS converge on documented removal of 1200-grit sanding marks in 1–2 passes with a foam or microfiber cutting pad on a DA polisher. It cuts harder than M205 (the companion finishing polish) and substantially harder than mass-market hybrids like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. It is the standard pro-grade cutting step in two-step paint correction workflows.
Will M105 finish clean or do I need M205 after?▾
M105's super micro-abrasive technology is designed for diminishing-abrasive behavior and finishes cleaner than traditional rubbing compounds. On softer clearcoats it can be one-step capable with a finishing pad. On harder German clears or dark paint, most pros follow with M205 (Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish) for hologram-free results — the M105 + M205 pairing is the standard two-step workflow.
Does M105 work on hard German clearcoats?▾
Yes — M105 is one of the most-used compounds for hard OEM clears (BMW, Mercedes, Audi). The high cut level handles 1200-grit sanding marks and deep swirls that medium-cut hybrids struggle with. Pad and machine selection matter: foam cutting or microfiber cutting pads on DA, GA, or rotary polishers all work.
What does the SDS say about safety?▾
The 2019 EU REACH SDS classifies M105 with H317 (skin sensitizer) — driven by a trace CMIT/MIT preservative used to prevent microbial growth in the water-based formula. Nitrile gloves are warranted during application and pad cleanup. The product is otherwise classified as not having serious eye, inhalation, or environmental hazards. No DANGER signal word.
What's the difference between M105 and Meguiar's Ultimate Compound?▾
M105 is a professional-grade heavy-cut compound with documented 1200-grit removal capability. Ultimate Compound is a mass-market medium-cut hybrid that handles 3000-grit marring and oxidation. M105 is what you reach for when Ultimate Compound isn't enough. Different products in different correction tiers — both made by Meguiar's.

Perfect!
Tremendous product. Have a new black vehicle and noticed large bird droppings on the lift gate. NOTHING would take them off. Tried to wash them off, use club soda, liquid soap...nothing worked. so I searched amazon and found other users who said it works on bird droppings. OUTSTANDING! Plus it eliminated the small scratches around the area where I tried other methods. All gone, and finish is perfect.
