From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“H318 (Serious Eye Damage Cat 1) from SDS §2, GHS05 corrosive pictogram. At wheel height, pump spray aimed upward into the barrel puts the nozzle at face level; H318 is a Cat-1 serious eye damage code. Eye protection is required by the SDS chemistry.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2 lists no skin hazard codes (no H314, H315, H317). The formula is water-dominant with surfactants at 1-5% concentrations. Skin contact from spray drips during a normal use session does not trigger a documented skin hazard at consumer concentrations. Situational for prolonged or repeated skin contact as a precaution per the surfactant-blend chemistry.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“No H335, H330, or H331 in SDS §2. Water-based surfactant formula with no volatile co-solvents in SDS §3. No respiratory hazard pathway at typical outdoor pump-spray use. Situational for use in an enclosed space without ventilation as a precautionary note.”

TL;DR Specialty foaming gel for black, matte, and satin wheel finishes that handles regular brake dust in a spray-dwell-rinse cycle, but the SDS carries DANGER and H318 (Serious Eye Damage Cat 1); wear safety goggles at wheel height.
Thick foaming gel clings to wheel faces and barrel walls for longer contact time than a thin spray. Clears standard brake dust from painted alloy and chrome black wheels in one pass; barrel pockets benefit from a light brush pass and heavy contamination may need a second application. Spray on, dwell two to four minutes, rinse off. No iron-reactive color change with this formula, so there is no bleed to watch as a dwell-completion signal.
Good fit for owners of black-finish wheels (matte, gloss, satin, or chrome black) doing regular maintenance cleaning every few weeks. Covers standard painted alloy and chrome as well. Skip it if your wheels are polished aluminum, anodized, ceramic-coated, or PPF-wrapped; those surfaces have no confirmed compatibility data. For heavily contaminated or tracked-car wheels, a dedicated iron remover is the more targeted choice.
The SDS classifies this product with DANGER based on H318 (Serious Eye Damage Cat 1): wear safety goggles when spraying at wheel height, where upward spray into the barrel puts the nozzle at face level. No skin corrosion or respiratory H-codes in SDS §2; the formula is water-dominant with surfactants only. Product carries a California Prop 65 warning, likely from trace contamination during manufacturing of one surfactant component. As a drain-destined rinse-off product, no aquatic toxicity data exists in SDS §12; that absence is not a clean bill of health.
The Safety Data Sheet for Meguiar's Hot Rims Black Wheel Cleaner carries a DANGER signal word, with classified hazards including H318 (causes serious eye damage). The Amazon listing also carries a California Prop 65 warning. See the PPE breakdown above for use-case-specific guidance translated from the SDS hazard codes.
CarCareTruth scores Meguiar's Hot Rims Black Wheel Cleaner at 5.6 out of 10 on the composite CCT score, with a health sub-score of 1.0/10. The CCT score blends real-world effectiveness, ingredient health impact pulled from the manufacturer's safety sheet, and environmental footprint against a published category rubric. See the methodology link on this page for the full scoring breakdown.
