TL;DR The community track record is still far too thin to confirm whether this aerosol clears significant corrosion buildup without a wire brush, the question that matters most in this category. The listing claims acid-neutralizing chemistry, but no SDS is available and health data is withheld at 5.0.
BTC4 is a pressurized aerosol that dissolves white-blue corrosion on terminal posts and cable clamps and neutralizes residual acid. Spray on, let it react, then rinse or wipe. Whether it handles heavy crusty buildup in a single application is unknown · no forum or community evidence exists. BTC4 is discontinued and no longer in Gunk's active lineup; the product listing shows currently unavailable.
A reasonable option for light routine terminal maintenance if you can source it · the acid-neutralization claim is plausible. Skip it for heavy buildup from a long-neglected battery; that requires confirmed single-application efficacy this product can't demonstrate. Also skip if you need an active SDS · none exists for BTC4.
No SDS is available, so no hazard classifications can be confirmed. PPE tiers reflect the aerosol delivery scenario only · wear safety glasses when spraying near face level. Rinse water is drain-destined; dispose of waste water away from storm drains. The corrosion dissolved from battery terminals contains lead sulfate · wash hands thoroughly after handling the cleaned terminals, and avoid rinsing dissolved corrosion into storm drains.
CarCareTruth scores Gunk BTC4 Battery Terminal Cleaner at 5.8 out of 10 on the composite CCT score, with a health sub-score of 5.0/10. The CCT score blends real-world effectiveness, ingredient health impact pulled from the manufacturer's safety sheet, and environmental footprint against a published category rubric.
