Decent, but it's tough on the environment.

GHS hazard codes are quoted from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet. PPE tiers below translate those codes and the listed ingredient chemistry; they are not CarCareTruth recommendations.

Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 instructs safety glasses with side shields (or goggles) for handling this product. Section 11 confirms real eye irritation (redness, tearing) on contact. Section 2 carries no eye-hazard GHS code, so this is a genuine handling precaution rather than a mixture-level eye hazard.
CarCareTruth publishes the cited sources verbatim and does not advise what action a user should take. Consult the full SDS before use.
Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 calls for natural rubber, nitrile, Neoprene, or PVC gloves, and Section 11 reports skin irritation and possible dermatitis on contact. Section 2 carries no skin-hazard GHS code, so gloves are a real contact precaution for this petroleum-distillate carrier, not a mixture-level classification.

Translated from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
SDS Section 8 calls for a NIOSH-approved air-purifying respirator with an organic-vapor cartridge, and Section 11 reports that vapors may irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs and can cause CNS-depression symptoms (headache, dizziness, nausea). Section 2 carries no inhalation GHS code, and the 79°C flash point confirms a volatile carrier, so this is a real vapor-exposure precaution, most relevant in an enclosed garage rather than outdoors.

PPE tiers translate the manufacturer’s SDS and U.S. regulatory standards. Not professional safety advice. How we report safety.
Scope of these PPE tiers. The tiers on this page translate the product's Safety Data Sheet where one is published, plus its ingredient chemistry, into a comparable rating. They describe a formulation, not a situation: a tier is not a safety determination for any specific user, task, quantity, or environment. The manufacturer's label and use instructions govern how the product is handled. Where the product is used at work, the employer's PPE program and hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decide what protection is selected, not this page.

This product ranks #2 of 16 in Fuel Injector Cleaner.

TL;DR PEA chemistry · the most independently researched injector and intake valve detergent class · confirmed in the US SDS at a disclosed concentration. Community signal is exceptionally strong. The brand extends coverage claims to combustion chamber; PEA chemistry supports zones 1 and 2, not zone 3 independently.
Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up uses polyetheramine (PEA), confirmed in the US SDS, as the primary detergent. PEA has the deepest independent research base for injector and intake valve deposit removal. The brand positions this product for GDI and port-injection engines across gasoline, diesel, and ethanol applications. The brand also claims combustion chamber and crankcase coverage; PEA has a plausible mechanism for intake-side deposits but combustion chamber results are not independently corroborated. Protocol: one 16 oz bottle per tank. Community evidence is very strong: it's highly rated by a large base of owners and a genuine category favorite.
Best for gasoline, diesel, or ethanol vehicle owners · including GDI engines · wanting a maintenance treatment or one-time clean after running non-Top Tier fuel. Owners who consistently use Top Tier certified gasoline already get a baseline detergent package. Engines with misfires or injector failure beyond normal carbon fouling need professional service, not a pour-in treatment.
SDS §2 is WARNING from H227 (combustible liquid) only · no health H-codes at mixture level. The petroleum-solvent carrier means inhalation risk is minimal outdoors during the brief pour but relevant in an enclosed garage where vapors accumulate. The product combusts in the engine; exhaust byproducts are the environmental endpoint.
The listing for Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up carries a California Prop 65 warning. Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up is a working automotive fluid rather than a passive part, so the warning points at the formulation itself. The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet is the primary source for what is in it: the hazard classification and the PPE tiers on this page are translated from that sheet, and the full SDS is linked from the safety panel. California requires the warning whenever exposure to any of roughly 900 listed substances is possible. It does not name which substance applies to a given product, and it states no dose or risk level, so it is not on its own a measure of how hazardous this fluid is in normal use.
