From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2 classifies the product as 'Not classified'; no H319 or H318 GHS codes. The FHSA/CPSC consumer label states 'Causes serious eye irritation' and SDS §4 first-aid repeats this language; both are precautionary consumer-product labeling at thresholds lower than GHS classification. At RTU (16 oz spray) concentration, the neutral pH (7.5) and surfactant chemistry do not support a GHS eye irritation finding. Situational for direct concentrate-form contact or accidental splash to the face.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2 not classified; no H315 or H314. SDS §4 first-aid notes 'may cause skin irritation.' At RTU dilution, the surfactant and glycol ether co-solvent system at pH 7.5 is not expected to produce skin irritation during normal wipe-on/wipe-off application. Situational for concentrate handling or extended repeated contact.”

From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2: Not classified for respiratory effects. No H335 or H336 present. SDS §8 notes general ventilation under engineering controls.”

This product ranks #3 of 8 in Plastic / Trim Cleaner.
Last reviewed June 9, 2026
TL;DR Lifts oily fingerprints and grime from dashboards and plastic trim in one wipe, dries matte with no residue, and it has become one of the most-trusted interior cleaners on the market. Safe on soft-touch panels and navigation screens. Despite the "Protectant" name, SDS chemistry confirms no silicone or polymer dressing agent. Prop 65 warning for trace Myrcene and 1,4-dioxane from surfactant manufacturing. GHS: Not classified.
Chemical Guys Total Interior Cleaner is a neutral-pH pump-spray cleaner for dashboards, door panels, center console, and plastic trim. It removes fingerprints, grime, and outgassing film in a single spray-and-wipe pass on smooth and textured plastics; heavier silicone dressing buildup may need a second pass. Spray directly onto the trim or onto a cloth; near infotainment bezels and vent grilles, spraying onto the cloth first reduces overspray risk on electronics. Community evidence across r/AutoDetailing and owner reviews confirms a clean matte result with no dust-attracting residue after drying, the most important performance marker in this category. No community evidence of surfaces re-soiling faster than untreated trim after application.
Best for regular maintenance cleaning between details: fingerprint removal and light grime on factory hard plastic trim, screens, and soft-touch panels. Not a substitute for UV protection or a dressed finish; use a dedicated interior protectant after cleaning for those results.
The SDS §2 classification is "Not classified" under GHS; no H-codes, no signal word. The consumer label carries "WARNING: Causes serious eye irritation" under CPSC/FHSA thresholds, which are lower than GHS; the GHS system does not support H319 at RTU concentration. A California Prop 65 warning applies for trace Myrcene (fragrance) and 1,4-dioxane (surfactant manufacturing byproduct); neither is an active cleaning ingredient. Wipe-off application means chemical load exits through laundry wastewater, not drains.
Community experience across r/AutoDetailing and owner reviews confirms it is generally safe on soft-touch rubberized panels at the ready-to-use concentration. The neutral pH (7.5) avoids the alkaline chemistry that can attack soft-touch coatings over repeated use. No widespread reports of surface damage or texture change on soft-touch trim; though as with any cleaner, excess product should be wiped off promptly.
Community review data consistently confirms a clean, natural, matte finish with no residue or added gloss after drying. The formula does not contain silicone or polymer dressing agents, so surfaces return to their factory appearance rather than gaining a shine. A small number of owners note light streaking on glass when applied heavily; using a dry microfiber to buff after the initial wipe resolves this.
The California Proposition 65 warning covers two substances: Myrcene (a terpene in the fragrance component, listed for cancer and reproductive harm) and trace 1,4-dioxane (a manufacturing byproduct from the ethoxylation of the surfactant ingredients, listed as a carcinogen). Neither is an intentional cleaning ingredient. The SDS §2 classifies the product as 'Not classified' under GHS; the Prop 65 warning is triggered by California's lower disclosure threshold for these trace substances.
It cleans effectively but is not a dressing or UV protectant. The SDS chemistry confirms no polymer film-former, UV absorber, or silicone conditioning agent; surfaces are cleaned, not protected or dressed. For UV protection and a factory-matte or satin finish after cleaning, a separate interior protectant product is needed.
Both are neutral-pH interior cleaners. Nonsense is a concentrate-form all-purpose cleaner sold primarily for dilution at different ratios for different tasks. Total Interior Cleaner is a ready-to-use spray specifically designed for interior surfaces. In practice, community users report very similar cleaning results on interior plastic trim at equivalent dilutions.
