PPG-2 Methyl Ether

  • Glycol ether solvents
  • CAS 34590-94-8
  • IUPAC: 1-methoxypropan-2-ol

Mild skin and eye irritant at high concentrations. No H-code classification at typical working dilutions. Not a known carcinogen, reproductive toxin, or asthmagen. EPA Safer Choice acceptable solvent.

PPG-2 Methyl Ether (propylene glycol methyl ether, CAS 34590-94-8) is a glycol ether co-solvent used in interior cleaners to enhance surfactant wetting and penetration on hard plastic and vinyl surfaces. At the low concentrations used in ready-to-use spray cleaners, it is generally considered low-hazard. It is miscible with water and readily biodegradable. Unlike some glycol ethers in the ethylene glycol series (EGME, EGEE), the propylene glycol-based ethers have a significantly better safety profile with no reproductive toxicity concern at typical exposure levels.
