TL;DR One of the most popular waxes in Adam's lineup for a reason — pour a little on a foam applicator, spread it, wipe it off, done. Genuine carnauba gloss, easy application, smells like bananas. Nothing scary safety-wise (just gloves and ventilation). The one flag worth knowing: D5 silicone is a PBT/vPvB substance with aquatic persistence concerns — not a personal hazard, but an environmental one.
What it is and how it performs
Buttery Wax is an emulsified carnauba liquid wax with a petroleum distillate/naphtha carrier (~127 g/L VOC estimated), D5 silicone for leveling and gloss, and polymer boosters for durability. The liquid form makes application trivially easy compared to paste waxes — no fighting with dried product, no extended buffing. On paint you get a warm carnauba glow with 1–3 months of protection under daily-driver conditions. The 4.7-star average across 1,387+ Amazon reviews reflects consistent community agreement that it does exactly what it promises. Not a sealant replacement, but an excellent finishing step.
Who should buy this
Carnauba fans who want genuine gloss without the paste wax hassle. If you already have a sealant or coating as a base and want to top it with wax, Buttery Wax is one of the most user-friendly options in this price range. Also great for show car prep where you're applying the night before and want a quick, repeatable result.
Who should skip this
Anyone expecting multi-month durability without a sealant underneath — carnauba alone on a daily driver will fade by month 2–3 in weather. And if you care about environmental impact in your product choices, the D5 silicone's PBT/vPvB status and aquatic toxicity classification put it in "use sparingly" territory.
Is it safe?
WARNING signal word. H315 (skin irritation) from the petroleum distillate carrier. Wear nitrile gloves for extended work; the level of hazard doesn't demand full PPE for a quick application. No eye hazard classification. Flash point 63°C — keep away from open flames but no special fire precaution needed at normal garage temperatures. Apply with good ventilation in an enclosed space. The banana scent is a mild fragrance, not a warning signal.
Environmental impact
The D5 silicone (decamethylcyclopentasiloxane) is the environmental story here. It's classified as PBT — persistent, bioaccumulative, and showing aquatic toxicity in long-term studies. It accumulates in sediment and aquatic organisms. The product also carries an aquatic toxicity classification (very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects). Stay-on-car application limits direct water entry, but wash runoff will carry D5 to drains. No EPA Safer Choice, not biodegradable. Use it — it's a great wax — but don't over-apply or waste it.
Frequently asked questions
How does Buttery Wax compare to a paste wax like Americana?▾
Buttery Wax is much easier to apply — pour it on a foam applicator, spread on one panel, wipe off. No buffing battle. Americana Paste Wax has higher solvent content (VOC 596 g/L vs. ~127 g/L here) and a thicker paste form that some detailers prefer for show cars. Both are carnauba-based; Buttery is the daily-driver-friendly version.
How long does the protection last?▾
Carnauba-based liquid wax typically gives 1–3 months of protection on a daily driver. Buttery Wax is on the easier-to-use end, which means most people apply it more often — that consistency matters more than claimed maximum durability.
Can I apply it over a ceramic coating?▾
Yes, as a topper. The wax layer won't bond chemically to a ceramic coating the way a ceramic booster spray would, but it will add a gloss layer and some sacrifice material on top. Reapply more frequently than on bare paint since the hydrophobic ceramic surface reduces adhesion.
What's D5 silicone and should I be concerned?▾
Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) is a silicone carrier used in waxes and personal care products. It has no significant acute health hazard but is classified as PBT/vPvB — persistent, bioaccumulative, and potentially toxic to aquatic organisms over time. For home use it's not a personal safety concern; it's an environmental concern when rinsed off in high volumes.
Does it work by machine?▾
Yes — apply via a foam finishing pad at low speed (3–4 on a DA polisher). It levels easily and doesn't require high-speed buffing. Hand application with a foam applicator is just as effective for a single car.

This wax is over the top amazing GRAB IT!!!
Please allow me to give this 20 Stars!!!!I cannot say enough good about this productThe quality is over the topThe finish is a super amazing deep gloss that word will never describe. I brought my truck to the dealer and they all in service and sales came out and said what did you do to the finish this is insanity. The water repellant ability is well the water just does not stay on the autoIt is super easy to apply and removeIT actually has a pleasant smell which when you are detailing a car is actually important. The initial application is a bit more time consuming that follow up applications just because of wanted to get every nook and cranny. Now I put it on with my rotary buffer @ 1200 rpm and allow to haze and wipe off - full size F250 Super Duty takes me about 2 hours start to finish wash/polish/wax.Yeah I am a bit over the top with my cars/bikes etc....
