Coolant questions

How do I find what coolant my car takes?
Pick your year, make, and model above. For cars we've confirmed, you get the exact coolant type, the color, how much the system holds, and the change interval. The coolant type comes straight from the owner's manual or the OEM parts catalog, which is the real authority — so that's always the final word.
Can I mix orange and pink coolant?
As a rule, no. Coolant color is a rough hint at its chemistry, not a guarantee, and mixing two different families (say an orange OAT with a green IAT) can drop the corrosion protection or even gel up. The safe move is to drain and refill with the exact type your manual calls for rather than topping off with whatever color is in the garage. If you must add a little to limp to a shop, distilled water is safer than the wrong coolant.
What's the difference between OAT, HOAT, and IAT coolant?
They're three corrosion-inhibitor chemistries. IAT is the old-school green stuff with inorganic additives, usually a 2-year change. OAT uses organic acids and lasts much longer (think 5 years or 150,000 miles), and it's what most GM and many newer cars want. HOAT is a hybrid of the two, common in Ford, Chrysler, and a lot of European cars. The colors loosely track these but aren't reliable across brands, so match the spec in your manual, not the color.
How much coolant does my car hold?
It varies a lot by engine and cooling-system size, from roughly 6 quarts on a small four-cylinder to 16-plus on a big V8 or a truck. Pick your car above for the figure we have. For a full drain and fill you'll want close to the system capacity; for a top-off you only add what's low, mixed 50/50 with distilled water unless you bought pre-mixed.
