Pentyl Acetate (Amyl Acetate)

  • ester
  • CAS 628-63-7
  • IUPAC: Pentyl acetate

Flammable liquid Cat 3 (H226) at pure concentration. At fragrance trace levels (<0.5%) in detailing products no GHS classification carries through to the mixture. Mild irritation at high doses.

Pentyl acetate (also called amyl acetate) is the ester used as a banana-scented fragrance ingredient and as a solvent in lacquers and inks. In detailing chemistry it appears only at trace fragrance levels — typically less than half a percent. At trace fragrance concentrations the H226 flammability classification of the pure substance does not propagate to the mixture, and the ingredient does not push the product over a GHS reporting threshold for any health or environmental hazard.
