Methyl Soyate (Soy Methyl Esters)

  • ester
  • CAS 67784-80-9
  • IUPAC: Fatty acids, soya, methyl esters

Not GHS-classified (no H-codes per Section 2). No skin sensitization, no reproductive or carcinogenic concerns documented. Safe for typical detailing exposure in low-percentage formulations.

Methyl soyate (also listed as fatty acids, soya, methyl esters or soybean oil methyl ester) is a bio-based solvent produced by transesterifying soybean oil with methanol. It's used in cleaning products as a replacement for petroleum-derived solvents and in detailing chemistry as a mild emollient and slip enhancer. At the 1–5% range typical of waterless wash and rinseless wash formulas, methyl soyate carries no GHS hazard classification and is readily biodegradable. It contributes to the lubricity that makes paint-safe wiping possible without measurably increasing the product's environmental footprint.
