Benzaldehyde

  • Fragrances
  • CAS 100-52-7
  • IUPAC: Benzaldehyde

Acute Tox Cat 4 oral (H302) at pure substance concentration. At trace fragrance use levels (<0.2%) the GHS classification does not carry through to the mixture. Some IFRA restrictions apply for skin-leave-on cosmetics; not relevant for rinseless/waterless wash use.

Benzaldehyde is the simplest aromatic aldehyde — it's the compound that gives bitter almond and cherry their characteristic scent, and it's a common fragrance ingredient in soaps, cleaners, and personal care products. At the trace fragrance concentrations used in detailing chemistry (typically less than 0.2%), benzaldehyde's pure-substance hazard classifications do not propagate to the mixture under GHS rules.
