CarCareTruth ratings translate the manufacturer's safety sheet. They do not replace the SDS or substitute for a hazard assessment specific to your task.
Health score is for adult use as intended, per the manufacturer's SDS. It does not model child ingestion, accidental spill cleanup, or off-label use. See the safety panel below for full hazard classification, and /disclaimer for the full editorial scope.
GHS hazard codes are quoted from the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet. PPE tiers below translate those codes and the listed ingredient chemistry; they are not CarCareTruth recommendations.

This product ranks #2 of 9 in Deicer / Frost Spray.
Last reviewed June 14, 2026
TL;DR Fast on light frost and typical winter ice; cold-climate performance at the label floor of -4°F is unverified by community owners. Alcohol-based formula with no documented paint or seal damage. The DANGER label is a fire hazard warning, not a toxicity concern.
This pressurized aerosol deicer clears frost and thin ice on contact across windshields, mirrors, headlights, and door locks. Mild-climate buyers consistently describe fast clearing in seconds without a scraper. Cold-climate performance at -4°F is unverified: no northern-US owners documented results at that temperature floor, so the label claim stands without independent confirmation. The alcohol-based, glycol-antifreeze formula leaves no paint etching or seal damage documented by owners. Shake the can before use; skipping this step can cause the spray to fail on first application.
Good fit for mild-climate drivers dealing with occasional frost who want a no-scraper routine. The 2-pack is reasonable value for that use case. Skip it if you park outside in a northern-tier climate where temps regularly drop below 0°F; a higher-concentration IPA formula with verified cold-climate reviews is the better choice there.
SDS §2 classifies this as an extremely flammable aerosol (H222) under pressure (H229) with eye irritation potential (H319); DANGER comes from flammability, not health toxicity. Eye irritation from aerosol mist is the relevant chemistry-based concern; safety glasses address it during spray application toward the windshield. Combined alcohol content puts VOC above 250 g/L; SDS §12.2 states the formula is not readily biodegradable.
The Safety Data Sheet for Polar Specialist Coatings Polar De-Icer Spray carries a DANGER signal word, with classified hazards including H222 (extremely flammable aerosol); H229 (pressurized container: may burst if heated); H319 (causes serious eye irritation). See the PPE breakdown above for use-case-specific guidance translated from the SDS hazard codes.
CarCareTruth scores Polar Specialist Coatings Polar De-Icer Spray at 6.8 out of 10 on the composite CCT score, with a health sub-score of 8.7/10. The CCT score blends real-world effectiveness, ingredient health impact pulled from the manufacturer's safety sheet, and environmental footprint against a published category rubric. See the methodology link on this page for the full scoring breakdown.
