CarCareTruth's Analysis

Last reviewed June 2, 2026

TL;DR All-season touring tire built around exceptional tread life: UTQG Treadwear 840 and owner-odometer data confirming life past class norms. UTQG Traction B; Tire Rack's 2025 test confirms mediocre wet performance. Best for high-mileage daily driving where longevity and comfort take priority.

What it is and how it performs

The Defender2 covers sedans, crossovers, and minivans across a wide passenger size range, roughly 15- to 20-inch rims. UTQG: Treadwear 840, Traction B, Temperature B; M+S marked, no 3PMSF. Tire Rack's 2025 test and Consumer Reports both rate treadwear Excellent; owner data confirms life at or past typical class mileage. Comfort and noise score above average. The trade-off: Traction B caps wet-grip per the rubric, and Tire Rack's 2025 test noted vague wet steering and below-average snow braking.

Who should buy this, and who should skip it

Right pick for high-mileage commuters wanting long tread life and a quiet ride. Skip it for hard winters or wet climates; a 3PMSF-rated all-weather tire is the right fit.

Safety and environmental impact

Cured-rubber-and-steel; no chemical-exposure pathway in normal mounting or use. All tires shed tire-wear particles and 6PPD-quinone in road runoff, an aquatic toxicity concern shared across the category.
