  • IUPAC: Neatsfoot oil (rendered cattle hoof and shin oil)

Not GHS-classified at any concentration. No skin sensitization or irritation potential at consumer use levels. Animal-derived; not suitable for vegan formulations.

Neatsfoot oil is a traditional leather-conditioning oil rendered from the shin bones and feet of cattle. It penetrates leather fibers, softens them, and adds a measure of water-repellency. The oil has been used in saddle and harness care for centuries, and persists in modern auto leather conditioners (notably Mothers VLR) as a natural conditioning agent. It is not classified as hazardous and is readily biodegradable. Some modern formulations use synthetic neatsfoot-style esters to avoid the animal-derived sourcing concern.
