Aldehyde C-16, also known as strawberry aldehyde or ethyl methylphenylglycidate, is a synthetic fragrance compound used to impart strawberry and fruity notes to soaps, cleaners, and detailing products. Despite the "aldehyde" name, it is technically an ester, not an aldehyde. It is a recognized fragrance allergen (IFRA-restricted) and carries Skin Sens 1 (H317) and Aquatic Chronic 2 (H411) classifications at the pure-substance level. In detailing products it appears at trace fragrance concentrations (typically <0.5%) where these classifications do not propagate to the mixture under GHS rules.
