SoonLincoln Aviator
1st Generation
2003–2005 · UN152 · suv
First-gen Aviator (UN152) — body-on-frame midsize SUV based on the third-gen Ford Explorer (U152) architecture. Single engine: 4.6L DOHC InTech V8 (302hp/300 lb-ft) — same engine family as the Mustang Mach 1's 4-valve Mod motor. 5-speed 5R55W automatic. RWD or 4WD. Built at St. Louis Assembly. Short three-year run; replaced indirectly by the MKX (2007) and revived as a unibody crossover in 2020.
Watch out: 4.6L DOHC InTech V8 doesn't share the 3V Triton spark-plug issue (this engine pre-dated the 3V design) but has its own cam-chain tensioner failures with a tell-tale cold-start rattle that can grenade if ignored — $2,000-3,500 repair. Rear air suspension is standard and leaks at the bag seams around 100k. Generally a rare, well-built truck overshadowed by sibling Explorer / Mountaineer market noise.

2nd Generation
2020–2026 · U611 · suv
Second-gen Aviator (U611) — unibody crossover on the rear-drive-based CD6 platform, shared with the sixth-gen Explorer. Engines: 3.0L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 (400hp/415 lb-ft) and 3.0L EcoBoost PHEV (494hp combined, ~21 mi electric, Grand Touring trim only). 10R60 10-speed automatic. RWD or AWD. Three-row, 6 or 7-passenger. 30-way Perfect Position front seats, glass roof, Revel Ultima audio.
Watch out: Rough 2020 launch quality (same Chicago Assembly issues as the U625 Explorer) — multiple recalls / TSBs in the first year. 3.0L EcoBoost intake-valve cracking on 2020-2022 builds is covered by NHTSA recall 24V-635 (same campaign as Bronco/F-150/Explorer/Edge 2.7 and 3.0 EcoBoost). 10R60 launch software issues addressed by reflashes. Generally improved 2023+.

SoonLincoln Navigator
2nd Generation (U228)
2003–2006 · U228 · suv
Second-gen Navigator (U228) — Lincoln-spec Expedition U222 with independent rear suspension and luxury appointments. Single engine: 5.4L 3-valve InTech V8 (300hp, 2005-2006) and 5.4L DOHC InTech (300hp, 2003-2004 Navigator-only with the 32-valve head). 4-speed 4R75E automatic. RWD or 4WD. Power running boards, power-folding third row, and THX-certified audio were the headline luxury items.
Watch out: 5.4L 3-valve Triton (2005-2006) shares the Expedition's well-known broken-spark-plug-in-head pattern — Time-Sert repair and updated single-piece plugs are the standard fix. The DOHC 5.4L InTech (2003-2004 Navigator-exclusive) is a different engine and doesn't share the issue, but cam-phaser and timing-chain-tensioner wear are the long-term watch items. Air suspension (rear) leaks at the bag seams around 100k — common replacement job.

3rd Generation (U326)
2007–2017 · U326 · suv
Third-gen Navigator (U326) — Lincoln-spec Expedition U324 sibling. 11-year production run. Engines: 5.4L 3-valve Triton V8 (310hp, 2007-2014), 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 (380hp, 2015-2017). 6R75/6R80 6-speed automatic. RWD or 4WD. Navigator L extended-wheelbase variant introduced 2007 (separate U418 code). Heavy refresh 2015 with new fascia, EcoBoost, and Lincoln's MyLincoln Touch.
Watch out: 5.4L 3V Triton (2007-2014) broken-plug-in-head and cam-phaser failures continue from the U228 — same Time-Sert and phaser-replacement fixes. 2015-2017 3.5 EcoBoost shares the gen-1 cam-phaser pattern with the 13th-gen F-150. Rear air-suspension bags continue to fail around 100k. PTU fluid is sealed-for-life from the factory but degrades by 80k — proactive swap recommended.

4th Generation (U554)
2018–2024 · U554 · suv
Fourth-gen Navigator (U554) on the T3 platform shared with the Expedition U553 and F-150 14th-gen. First aluminum-body Navigator. Single engine: 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 (450hp/510 lb-ft). 10R80 10-speed automatic. RWD or 4WD. Navigator L extended-wheelbase variant continues. Refresh 2022 added BlueCruise, ActiveGlide, and a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 center screen.
Watch out: Same 3.5 EcoBoost cam-phaser failure pattern (2018-2020 builds) as the F-150 / Expedition siblings — Ford CSP 21N03 covered some VINs but $3,000+ out-of-pocket past warranty is common. 10R80 10-speed launch-era harsh-shift TSBs addressed by reflashes. Air suspension is now standard and well-documented to leak at the front bags around 80-100k, $1,500-2,000 per corner if dealer-repaired.
