Modern Era
1st Generation
2017–2023 · coupe
Successor to the DB9 — Aston's bonded-aluminum 2+2 grand tourer. Initial 5.2L AE31 twin-turbo V12 (600 hp); the V8 variant (2017+) used the Mercedes-AMG M177 4.0L twin-turbo (503 hp). 8-speed ZF automatic. Coupe and Volante convertible. Discontinued in 2023, replaced by the DB12 (2023+, also AMG V8 only).
Watch out: V8 cars share the AMG M177 service profile — predictable maintenance. V12 cars have higher long-term cost (timing, cooling, accessory drive). Aston infotainment was Mercedes COMAND from this era — dated but serviceable. Volante soft-top mechanism is fiddly; water-intrusion reports on older cars.
2018–2024 · coupe
Flagship GT replacing the second-gen Vanquish. 5.2L AE31 twin-turbo V12 — 715 hp, 664 lb-ft, 8-speed ZF automatic, rear-wheel drive. Same bonded-aluminum architecture as the DB11 with bespoke chassis tuning. Coupe and Volante. 'Superleggera' badge is a tribute to the historical Touring coachbuilding partnership. Replaced by the DB12 / Vanquish (2024+) lineup.
Watch out: 5.2L V12 service costs are the long-term reality — timing components, accessory drive, and cooling system are routine but expensive. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard; rotor replacement is six-figure territory if pads run too thin. Verify Volante soft-top operates smoothly and seals are intact.
AM6 (2nd Generation Vantage)
2018–2026 · AM6 · coupe
Second-generation Vantage on Aston's modern bonded-aluminum architecture. 4.0L AMG-sourced M177 twin-turbo V8 (503 hp at launch, 656 hp / 665 PS in the 2025 facelift). V12 Vantage (2022-2023) and V12 Speedster used the 5.2L AE31 twin-turbo V12. ZF 8-speed automatic standard; a 7-speed manual was offered briefly. Coupe and Roadster.
Watch out: M177 V8 is well-understood from the AMG side — generally robust, with standard AMG service intervals applying. Aston-specific electronics and infotainment are quirky; software updates have addressed many launch-era complaints. Carbon-ceramic brakes are an option (Vantage F1 Edition, V12); life depends on usage. Manual-gearbox Vantage AM6 cars are rare and command premiums.
