CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 28, 2026
TL;DR The manufacturer that makes the film also makes this spray — and reviews from XPEL Ultimate Plus and Stealth Wrap owners confirm no film distress. Single-pass fingerprint and dust removal is solid, streak-free application is consistently praised, and the water-base formula carries no meaningful health concern.
What it is and how it performs
Detail Spray is XPEL's between-wash spray for vehicles with their paint protection film. Spray panel by panel and wipe with a clean microfiber — the water-base formula is forgiving in moderate sun. Reviews from XPEL Ultimate Plus and Stealth Wrap owners confirm no topcoat distress under regular use. Gloss enhancement is a modest sheen rather than dramatic depth; beading refresh is limited with no silicon dioxide booster in the formula. No independent installer data on LLumar, SunTek, or 3M film brands found — evidence base is XPEL film only.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Best for XPEL Ultimate Plus or Stealth Wrap owners wanting an ecosystem-matched between-wash spray. Skip it if your film is LLumar, SunTek, or 3M — no data exists confirming safety on those films. Pair with XPEL Ceramic Boost if beading refresh is the priority.
Safety and environmental impact
The SDS classifies this mixture as not hazardous — no signal word, no GHS pictograms, no mixture-level hazard codes. Isopropyl Alcohol at 1–2% is the only disclosed ingredient in a proprietary water-base formula. Estimated VOC is well below 50 g/L; SDS §15 confirms no Prop 65 chemicals; SDS §12 states not classified as environmentally hazardous. PFAS status of the bulk formula cannot be confirmed — no fluorinated ingredient is named in §3. All PPE tiers are situational.
Frequently asked questions
Is XPEL Detail Spray specifically formulated for PPF, or is it a generic quick-detailer?▾
It's XPEL's own branded detail spray (SKU R1391) made by the same company that manufactures XPEL paint protection film. The product is designed to complement XPEL's full line of PPF and ceramic coating products. Multiple reviews from XPEL Ultimate Plus and XPEL Stealth Wrap owners confirm no film distress. It is not a generic quick-detailer with PPF-safe marketing layered on.
Which PPF brands has XPEL Detail Spray been confirmed safe on?▾
Community reviews confirm use on XPEL Ultimate Plus and XPEL Stealth Wrap with no film distress. XPEL makes both the film and this spray, which is strong evidence of compatibility. No independent community data on LLumar, SunTek, 3M Scotchgard, or other film brands has been found. If your film is not from XPEL, test on a small panel first or ask your installer.
Does XPEL Detail Spray refresh water beading on PPF?▾
The formula is a water-base cleaner with very low IPA (1–2%) and no SiO₂ or fluoropolymer booster identified in the SDS. It is primarily a cleaning and gloss-maintenance spray, not a hydrophobic-restoration product. Beading improvement after application is expected to be modest and short-lived. For meaningful hydrophobic refresh, XPEL's Ceramic Boost product is a better fit.
Can XPEL Detail Spray be used on ceramic-coated paint as well as PPF?▾
Yes. Multiple reviews confirm use on vehicles with both XPEL PPF and XPEL Fusion Plus ceramic coating simultaneously. The manufacturer also markets it as safe on clear-coated finishes, trim, and coated vehicles. Community confirms no issues with ceramic coating use.
Does XPEL Detail Spray contain PFAS or fluorinated chemistry?▾
SDS §3 only discloses Isopropyl Alcohol (1–2%); the rest of the formula is proprietary. No fluorinated ingredient is named, but the bulk formula composition is not fully disclosed. The PFAS status is listed as unknown rather than confirmed absent. The formula carries no GHS environmental hazard classification and SDS §12 states it is not classified as environmentally hazardous.

Great Xpel detail spray to go with my Xpel PPF and ceramic coated BMW
After getting a new BMW recently, I bought all new car washing and detailing products. I had Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF and Xpel Fusion Plus ceramic coating put on the whole car, so it was a no brainer to go with Xpel detailing spray. It works great for removing light dirt and dust and spot cleaning fingerprints, smudges, and those random spots of stuff that come out of nowhere between washes. It dries streak free and even has a nice light scent.
