CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 27, 2026
TL;DR No independent SAE J1858 filtration test data has been published — the "95% efficiency" figure on the packaging cites no test method, placing it in the unverifiable marketing-claim tier. Silicone ADBV confirmed from manufacturer disclosure; construction quality is unverified by independent cut-open; manufacturer states a 10,000-mile service interval with cellulose-glass blend media.
What it is and how it performs
Spin-on canister filter with cellulose-glass synthetic-blend media, silicone ADBV, and a stated 10,000-mile service interval. FRAM's feature bullets claim 95% dirt-trapping efficiency but cite no test standard — not SAE J1858, not ISO 16889, not even a proprietary method; that absence places the claim in the unverifiable marketing-copy tier and no independent test data has been located. The silicone non-drain-back valve is confirmed from both the feature bullets and the labeled exploded-view image; bypass valve opening pressure is not disclosed. Construction quality is unverified by independent cut-open review. Amazon's Choice badge and 12,526 reviews at 4.8 stars show no pattern of canister failure, gasket leaks, or ADBV failure. Covers Honda and Toyota-family applications broadly with no fitment issues documented.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Right pick for a Honda or Toyota-family owner doing standard oil changes with conventional or semi-synthetic oil who wants a widely-available, community-vetted filter at a competitive price. Skip if independent SAE J1858 filtration efficiency data is a requirement, or if you run a full-synthetic extended-drain program beyond 10,000 miles — a full-synthetic extended-drain filter with published test data is the better choice for that use case.
Safety and environmental impact
Passive spin-on filter — no SDS exists and no chemical exposure pathway is attributable to the filter itself. Every spent filter contains residual motor oil, a hazardous waste in most US jurisdictions; drained filters are accepted for recycling at most automotive parts stores. At a 10,000-mile service interval, this filter is consumed approximately once per year per vehicle — half the frequency of a standard 5,000-mile filter.
Frequently asked questions
What vehicles does the FRAM EG+ PH7317P fit?▾
The PH7317P covers a broad Honda and Toyota-family application group including the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, and many other models. It is one of the most widely-fitment FRAM PH-series filters. Always verify fitment against your specific year, make, model, and engine using FRAM's application guide or a parts-finder before purchase.
Is the '95% efficiency' claim on the FRAM EG+ PH7317P backed by independent test data?▾
No. The 95% dirt-trapping efficiency figure appears in the product feature bullets but cites no test method — not SAE J1858, not ISO 16889, not even a manufacturer-internal standard. Without a cited test method, this is marketing copy rather than verifiable evidence. No independent multi-pass filtration test data has been published for the PH7317P.
Does the FRAM EG+ PH7317P have an anti-drain-back valve (ADBV)?▾
Yes. FRAM states the EG+ uses a silicone non-drain-back valve, which is confirmed in both the product feature bullets and the exploded-view image showing the ADBV component. Silicone is more heat- and cold-resistant than standard nitrile, which matters for cold-start performance. The silicone ADBV construction has not been independently verified by a third-party cut-open review.
Is the FRAM EG+ PH7317P an add-on item on Amazon?▾
Yes. ASIN B0009H52BG carries Amazon add-on item status, meaning it typically requires a qualifying order minimum or a Subscribe & Save enrollment to purchase standalone. Purchasing with motor oil or other qualifying items is the standard workaround.
Is the FRAM EG+ PH7317P rated for 10,000-mile oil change intervals?▾
FRAM states a 10,000-mile service interval on the product page and in the feature bullets. The filter uses a cellulose-glass blend media (not full-synthetic), which FRAM rates for the 10K interval with conventional or synthetic oil. No independent community cut-open data has been located confirming the media holds up across the full 10K interval without bypass activation.

Good balance of quality and price
What do I know about oil filters? Probably not enough! But here is what do know:The most important thing you can do for your engine is CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER FREQUENTLY!!!This is more important than what brand of oil or filter you use.- Don't wait for the low oil light to come on.- Don't wait for the oil to turn black.- Don't try to save money by just changing the oil and not the filter too.In summary:Don't be an idiot!OK, now that I have that out of the way, let's talk about the FRAM filter. I have lost count of the hundreds of vehicles and other pieces of equipment that I have changed oil and filters on over the past six decades. Most of these have been done using FRAM filters. Why do I use FRAM? It has to do with availability, affordability, and reliability. I have always been able to find FRAM, and they are always reasonably priced compared to the other brands. Most importantly, I have never had a FRAM filter fail. They fit, they seal, and they do their job filtering the oil. Do I ever ask them to go above and beyond? No, I don't. That is because I take care of my engines and change the oil and filter when I should. Do I spend a bit more than I need to? Probably, but I make up for it by doing the service myself and not having to overhaul or replace a very pricey engine. But even if you are one of the less handy folks who are forced to take your vehicle into a service center or, worse yet, a stealership, regular oil changes are cheaper than the alternative.TLDR: Take care of your engine and buy FRAM filters!
