From the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet, Section 8
“SDS §2 carries no GHS H-codes at the mixture level; the product is not classified as hazardous by OSHA HCS. Sodium xylenesulphonate (1-<2.5%) carries H319 at the component level; 2-butoxyethanol (<1%) carries H319 at the component level. Wheel-height spray application puts the nozzle at face level; situational eye protection applies for the spray_application trigger given face-level mist exposure with H319-bearing components. Editorial override: the mixture-level non-classification prevents recommending as a baseline requirement, but the spray_application posture warrants a situational note per the default-to-caution rule. ”

TL;DR Spray-and-rinse maintenance cleaner for painted alloy, chrome, and powder-coated wheels. No iron-reactive color-change chemistry. California Prop 65 cancer warning on file for 1,4-dioxane and acetaldehyde.
Spray on, let the foam dwell a few minutes, agitate the barrel with a brush if needed, then rinse. Brake dust and road film clear from standard daily-driver contamination in a single pass. Brand documentation claims safe for all wheel finishes including polished aluminum and ceramic coatings; the non-acid, non-caustic chemistry is consistent with that claim, though polished aluminum and ceramic-coated wheels have no independent community verification. No data on PPF or vinyl wrap.
Good fit for daily-driver owners who want a quick weekly cleaner for painted alloy, chrome, or powder-coated wheels and do not need iron-reactive chemistry. Skip it if you want visual confirmation of iron removal, or if tracked-car brake dust levels require a dedicated iron remover.
SDS §2 classifies this as non-hazardous under OSHA HCS; no GHS H-codes at the mixture level. The WARNING label on the bottle is California Prop 65 only: 1,4-dioxane and acetaldehyde are trace process impurities, both cancer-listed. No PPE is mandated by the SDS chemistry; the spray-height wheel posture makes eye protection a sensible precaution during application. SDS §12 and IMDG confirm not hazardous to aquatic life; estimated VOC is under 10 g/L.
The brand claims safe for all wheel finishes including polished aluminum. The SDS §2 carries no GHS hazard classification (non-acid, non-caustic formula), which is consistent with broad surface compatibility. No independent community reports of polished aluminum damage were found in owner feedback. Brand documentation is the primary basis for this claim; test on a small area first if you have high-value polished wheels.
Yes. SDS Section 15 and the bottle label both carry California Proposition 65 cancer warnings for 1,4-dioxane and acetaldehyde. These are trace-level process impurities from ethoxylated surfactants, not intentional ingredients. The SDS §2 mixture classification is non-hazardous under OSHA HCS. Outdoor use with normal ventilation minimizes inhalation exposure from these trace substances.
The gel concentrate (CLD_997) requires dilution and is designed to cling to vertical wheel surfaces. The spray (CLD_998) is ready to use straight from the bottle with no dilution needed. Both share the Diablo name and similar surfactant chemistry, but the spray is more convenient for routine maintenance while the concentrate is more economical for high-frequency use. The spray (CLD_998) carries a Prop 65 warning; the gel (CLD_997) does not, which is a meaningful chemistry difference.
No. The product's own amaranth (red) dye color can produce a reddish appearance during application, but this is the dye color, not an iron-reactive chemistry reaction. The SDS §3 ingredient list contains no thioglycolate or mercaptoacetate agent. This formula removes brake dust through surfactant action, not through iron-particle dissolution. Any reddish tint on application photos is the product's dye.
Brand documentation recommends spraying on, agitating lightly with a brush if needed, then rinsing. As with any spray wheel cleaner applied outdoors, rinse before the product dries completely, especially on hot or sun-exposed wheels. The foaming formula clings to vertical surfaces to extend effective dwell time, but dry-out before rinsing can leave residue.
