Rear differential
Gear oil spec
75W-140 (Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 Rear Synthetic Axle Lubricant, WSL-M2C192-A)
Limited-slip differential. Friction modifier: +4 oz (118 ml) Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier XL-3 (EST-M2C118-A) for complete fill of 8.8 inch and 9.75 inch Traction-Lok axles. Use an LSD-rated gear oil or add the modifier — a non-LSD fluid can make an LSD chatter.
Rear 8.8/9.75 inch axle. 5.5 pints (2.6 L). Synthetic factory fill, considered lubricated for life -- no scheduled change unless a leak is suspected or the axle was submerged in water.
Spec from the OEM (oem manual).
Capacity
2.75 qt

Spec from the OEM (oem manual).
Capacity
1.6 qt

Spec anchored to the OEM owner's manual; the capacity, when it carries the verified badge, is cross-checked against an independent source. Never changed by what an affiliate link pays us. Your owner's manual is always the final word — and if your axle has a locker or an option package, double-check the capacity for your exact build.
