Silicic Acid, Lithium Magnesium Sodium Salt (Laponite)

  • Other
  • CAS 53320-86-8

Classified as non-hazardous in the GHS system at consumer concentrations (≤3% in formula). No Prop 65 listing, no asthmagen classification, no known carcinogenicity. Possible mild eye irritation at high dust concentrations (nanoclay particle size) — irrelevant in liquid formulations.

Silicic acid, lithium magnesium sodium salt (CAS 53320-86-8) is a synthetic layered silicate mineral — trade name Laponite — used as the "SiO2 ceramic" active in ceramic-enhanced car wash soaps and quick detailers. In liquid form it disperses as nano-disc platelets (25 nm diameter, 1 nm thick) that adsorb to paint surfaces and leave a thin hydrophilic-to-hydrophobic film. Chemical Guys uses it in HydroSuds to deliver the ceramic protection marketing claim. At ≤3% in a diluted car wash formula, it presents no identified health or environmental hazard. ## Regulatory status - Not Prop 65 listed - Non-hazardous per GHS at consumer concentrations - No SARA 313 listing - No asthmagen classification
