First-generation XC90 on the Volvo P2 platform (internally P28). 2.5L / 3.2L / 4.4L V8 engines depending on year and market. The 4.4L Yamaha-supplied V8 (2005-2010) is a unicorn. Three-row seating standard. Sold from 2003 through 2014 in the US with minor updates — long lifecycle. The car that established the Volvo SUV brand.

Watch out: Aisin TF-80SC transmission solenoid wear past 100k miles is the famous issue — fluid changes (despite Volvo's 'lifetime' marketing) and solenoid service are the standard preventive. V8 (Yamaha B8444S) head-gasket and timing-chain concerns at high mileage. Otherwise reliable for a 20+ year old SUV.
