B6 Passat moved to transverse engine layout on the PQ46 platform — different architecture from B5. 2.0T (200 hp) or 3.6L VR6 (280 hp). 4Motion AWD on VR6. Wagon (Variant) and sedan body styles. Pre-NMS, sold globally on a single platform. Final B6 Passats sold in US through 2010 MY.

Watch out: 2.0T BPY-era engine: same timing-chain tensioner and carbon-buildup concerns as Mk5 GTI of the same era. VR6: generally durable but heavy front end accelerates front-tire and CV-joint wear. Both engines: water pump (plastic impeller) is a wear item.
