Volkswagen GTI Mk7 (5G)

Mk7 GTI on the MQB platform. EA888 Gen 3 2.0T at 210 hp (early) / 220 hp (Mk7.5 from 2018). Manual or DSG. The Mk7.5 facelift (2018-2021) brought digital cockpit and updated styling. Consensus among reviewers and owners: this is the modern GTI peak — best chassis tuning, fewer engine issues than earlier Mk5/Mk6, still attainable.

Watch out: EA888 Gen 3 is much improved over Gen 2 but still benefits from a PCV valve replacement and intake-valve walnut blasting around 80k-100k miles. Mk7 carbon buildup is less severe than Mk5/Mk6 but not eliminated. DSG fluid service every 40k miles remains mandatory.
