Toyota Tundra 1st Generation

20002006 · XK30 · truck

The 1st-gen Tundra was Toyota's first serious full-size pickup for the US market, built in Princeton, Indiana. Engines were the 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6 (2000-2004) and the 4.7L 2UZ-FE V8. Cab styles started with Regular Cab and Access Cab, with the Double Cab joining for the 2004 model year. Smaller than a contemporary F-150 in bed length and interior space, but the 2UZ-FE V8 earned a long-life reputation.

Watch out: Rear crossmember and frame rust on salt-belt trucks. Toyota ran a frame-replacement and buyback campaign covering certain 2000-2003 Tundras. Inspect the rear crossmember and leaf-spring hangers before buying any northeast or upper-midwest truck.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
