Toyota Tacoma 1st Generation

The 1st-gen Tacoma replaced the Hilux-based pickup in the US market and ran from 1995 through 2004. Engines covered the 2RZ-FE 2.4L and 2.7L 4-cylinders and the 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6. Regular Cab, Xtracab, and the Double Cab arriving in 2001. The defining issue is salt-belt frame rust, which Toyota addressed across two major settlements and buyback programs.

Watch out: Salt-belt frame rust on 1995-2000 trucks. Toyota's 2008 settlement covered those years for buybacks or frame replacement, and the 2001-2004 trucks were covered under a later Customer Support Program. Inspection windows have closed. Inspect every box section before signing.
