Toyota Corolla 11th Generation (E170)

The 11th-gen Corolla sedan ran in the US from the 2014 model year through early 2019. Engine was the 1.8L 2ZR-FE, paired with the new CVTi-S continuously variable transmission, a 6-speed manual on the S trim, or a 4-speed automatic on early base models. The LE Eco trim added Valvematic variable valve lift for slightly better fuel economy. No hatchback in the US for this generation; the iM hatchback that arrived for 2017 was the E180 platform.

Watch out: Owner reports of CVT shudder on light acceleration around 20-40 mph on higher-mileage cars, typically traced to degraded CVT fluid rather than mechanical failure. Toyota does not list a fixed service interval for the CVT fluid; a fluid change in the 60,000 to 80,000 mile range is the common preventive recommendation.
