Toyota Avalon 5th Generation (XX50)

The 5th-gen Avalon launched on the TNGA-K platform shared with the XV70 Camry, with a more aggressive grille and a sportier driving character than the previous generation. Powertrain was the 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic, with an Avalon Hybrid using the 2.5L A25A-FXS Atkinson-cycle four. Toyota announced in August 2021 that US production would end after the 2022 model year, making this the final US-market Avalon.

Watch out: Generation has a relatively short production run and no defining defect campaign has emerged. The 8-speed automatic is generally well-reviewed but owner forums report scattered complaints about low-speed shift quality. Hybrid models share the 2.5L hybrid system with the Camry Hybrid, which has its own forum-level chatter about transaxle whine.
