Sixth-gen Outback rides the Subaru Global Platform shared with the Legacy and Ascent. FB25 naturally-aspirated 2.5L returns; the 3.6L flat-six is replaced by the FA24 2.4L turbo flat-four (260 hp) on Outback XT and Wilderness trims. CVT only. Wilderness trim (2022+) adds lift, all-terrain tires, and revised gearing for genuine off-road duty.

Watch out: Owner reports of 11.6-inch portrait infotainment freezes / restarts on early MY2020-2022 units (multiple software updates issued). Verify any used example has the latest infotainment software.
