Subaru Impreza 2nd Generation (GD/GG, non-WRX)

2002–2007 · GD/GG · sedan

The second-gen Impreza shared bugeye, blobeye, and hawkeye facelifts with the WRX. US non-WRX trims used the naturally aspirated EJ251 (later EJ253) 2.5L flat-four in 2.5 RS sedan and Outback Sport wagon trims, with manual or four-speed automatic. AWD was standard.

Watch out: Owner reports of EJ251/EJ253 head-gasket failure (the well-known external coolant weep on Subaru naturally aspirated 2.5L engines of this era), oil-pump O-ring leaks, and aging timing belts. Salt-belt rust around rear quarter panels and strut towers is common on neglected cars.
