Oldsmobile Aurora 1st & 2nd Generation

Oldsmobile's modern flagship sedan, intended to rebrand the division around 'import-fighter' technology. First gen (1995-1999) ran the 4.0L L47 Northstar V8 (a shorter-stroke variant of the Cadillac 4.6L Northstar) making 250 hp. Second gen (2001-2003, with a model-year gap) offered the same 4.0L L47 V8 alongside a 3.5L LX5 V6. FWD, 4-speed automatic. Discontinued with the Olds brand.

Watch out: REAL ISSUE — 4.0L L47 Northstar head gasket failures track the Northstar-family pattern (head-bolt thread pull-out in the aluminum block). Cadillac's larger 4.6L Northstar gets the worst reputation but the 4.0L shares the underlying issue. Tower-style heli-coil/Northstar head-bolt thread repair is the canonical fix; many surviving cars have had it done.
